I was thinking late in the fight that theres no way Taylor landed in the double digits in any round, I almost fell asleep myself but when the verdict was being read I broke in a cold sweat at the thought of Spinks winning, and having to see him on a televised main event once again

His jab wasn't great against guys like Joppy or Marquez either. Pavlik is certainly vulnerable to the right types of fighters but I do not believe taylor is 1 of them. I believe the guy has been dropped and/or ko'ed in the gym because the way this guy is being matched is beyond ridiculous. Pavlik's right hand IS going to hit Taylor. Taylor won't react well. The styles are just all wrong for Taylor unless he hurts Pavlik he's not beating.

The word from Kronk is that Taylor is "a work in progress." His tenacity and size kept him in there with Winky and Hops.

That size and strength is basically the main reason why he HASN'T lost his past FIVE fights. But now it's time for him to fight a true middleweight

Taylor does have a tendency to leave it short.

I still think he hits Pavlik with it...a lot.

As much as it pains me I also think people are making Pavlik out to be the next best thing since sliced bread. He fought well and deserves a chance to fight Taylor I am not certain he can beat Taylor.

Miranda is basically a poorer version of Kelly Pavlik. Thats the only rational conclusion I can draw. He was the lesser of two punchers in a punchout. Thats it.

Huh? Pavlik is MUCH more skilled than Miranda. Pavlik didn't just win because he hits harder.

So he got his punches off better. Still doesn't change the fact that Pavlik is essentially a brawler.:nono:

    Thanks, Dsimon.

This board reads like half the posters believe they saw Thomas Hearns in the ring last night.

It just seems very easy for a fighter to generate this type of reaction...especially when they do it against an exciting fighter that has no concept of defense.

Pavlik brawled yes, but there was skill involved. His timing and accuracy was good, he setup the big rights with a hard jab, threw some good combos etc.

Don't oversimplify things orth. That's like saying Morales and Barrera are simply "brawlers". No, they both have skill, they just happen to like a brawl.

    Pavlik brawls with skill.

    He still brawls.

Taylor and Lou are in no way going to fight Kelly right now, if ever, IMO.
Kelly is much too relentless and heavy handed for Jermain, and Taylor and Mr. Steward both know it.
Kelly would polish off Jermain in a rough fight by TKO, and Taylor knows it.

I don't see how Taylor beats Pavlik. Pavlik is bigger, probably stronger, punches harder, has better technique, throws better combinations, has a wider array of punches. Taylor only throws like 3 punches, and he gets off balance every time he throws a combination, his technique is terrible. The only reason he gets away with it is because he's physically so much bigger and stronger than the guys he fights. Taylor isn't even more skilled than Pavlik. The only advantage he has is speed and a good jab. Pavlik brings so many things to the table -- size, power, workrate, aggression -- that Taylor's never had to deal with at all, and now he's gonna be seeing all these things in one fighter.

I'd like to see Taylor-Pavlik but I don't think it's going to happen, Taylor wants big coin fights

Pavlik is bigger, and longer, but his advantages aren't as big against Taylor as they were against Miranda...and Pavlik's arms are long and he loops his punches; his punches are often wide.

He won't be able to land as easily against most elite fighters as he did against Miranda.

And while Pavlik presents a different picture than most middleweights, there's a lot of things Pavlik hasn't seen in the ring, as well.

The two best fighters he's been in with are McKart and Miranda...it leaves a little something to be desired seeing as he's now granted the status as the seemingly unanimous #1 contender for Taylor.

He's an American. If he was Kelly Pavlik, from Mars, he wouldn't be getting any press at all. Right complexion, right connexion.

You can't even find Iraq. What makes you think you could find Mars???

Kelly is being talked up....I'll be honest with you...Kelly is the first White fighter since Lee Haskins that I have wanted to see get the absolute shit beat out of him.

All this yankee hype is really annoying.

Wait... so he's not from Mars? I'm confused.

No. He's from Ohio. Not Mars, but close.
