http://www.sportinglife.com/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/07/05/21/manual_145155.html Only notable insofar as he'll be fighting on a calzaghe undercard most likely, providing a not so subtle clue about who's next for calzone...also, I'd bet calzaghe won't be facing someone not dangerous enough to mess up this match-up...
not so sure Calzaghe-Froch happens anytime soon. If Taylor decides he wants no part of Pavlik.... er, I mean, decides that he can no longer make middleweight, then HBO will begin grooming a Calzaghe-Taylor fight. Knowing the braintrust @ HBO, they'll probably ask Kelly's handlers to consider up move 8 lb north for a fight w/ Froch, in the event that Carl is in the way of a Joe-JT fight happening. Two fights I can all but guarantee will not happen are Taylor-Pavlik and Calzaghe-Kessler
Calzaghe-Taylor is a suitable replacement ONLY if it happens right away (meaning without either fighter being afforded a tuneup between now and then). Pavlik is Taylor's biggest threat right now, and has earned the right to face him next. Calzaghe-Kessler, quite frankly, is the only fight that matters at super middleweight. Joe's locked in for July. His next fight after that has to be against Kessler, Taylor, or a light heavyweight champ. Taylor's next fight has to be against Pavlik or Calzaghe. Maybe Abraham as well, but only for those who put stock in titles and would go along with the tagline that it's a unification match.
His physio.ld: Joe will say that the Taylor fight has been ruined by Pavliks emergence as a #1 contender. Whats upseting is that it is true. Its just up to Warren and co to UP the money and MAKE the fight happen. Woods is a good fight...its just not Taylor.
If Taylor wants to fight Joe, thats a good fight. But like Jake said, make it happen, no more fucking tune ups:doh: I know you have a love affair with AA:: but if Taylor goes up, a Pavlik/AA matchup would be nice. Seriously, though. I don't understand how Pavlik emerging as the #1 contender at MW, keeps Joe from wanting Taylor:dunno:
Joe wants Taylor, alright...but the impetus from TEAM PAVLIK might be enough to make Joe nix the business headache of making the fight and turn towards, promotionally speaking, a far easier fight, vs Woods. Pavlik will argue he is due a shot at Taylor above anyone else...especially someone who isn't even a 160lb fighter. Of course, it would be taken care of by Joe simply beating the fucking shit out of Pavlik and then turning to Taylor. By that stage of course, Taylor has signed to fight Ivan Calderon.
