I just read an article in Univision.com where Valero says he will meet with his promoter Akihiko Honda in Los Angeles and they will negotiate with Golden Boy to own rights to his contract.

He said his next fight will be against Barrera on September 15 in Las Vegas!

    Hope it happens. :bears:

Valero by knock-out. I see this as a favor by Barrera for GBP.

why could valero fight in the usa now?

According to Valero he should be receiving an answer from the California Medical comission which he expects to be a positive one. He will then be able to fight in the USA.

Knowing the ego of the nevada commission, i'd be very surprised if CA will cut it for them

    I hope this is serious.

This would truly be a meaningful fight for all involved. If Valero has any ounce of technique (he surely hasn't SHOWN any in recent fights) his pure aggression would likely be enough to get a clear victory.

Then we have the setup for one of the great fights of our lifetime:

    Pacquiao vs Valero.

At least, that's what I'd hope :cheer:

this fight is simply an equity transfer. i don't think there's any intention of making Valero/Pacquiao. Not on terms Pacquiao will accept. Rather, this is an effort of GBP to build their own Pacquiao. One who like Pacquiao, will have knocked Barrera out, once the equity transaction is made.

I never saw Valero when he was coming up as a prospect but I heard he actually used to box more. Apparently he became more of a brawler later on. :blobbox:

SEE if Oscar De La Hoya and golden boy promotions REALLY..REALLY want to help BOXING..and bring it back to the mainstream...THEY would put this FIGHT on NBC or ABC..or ONE of the big network on SATURDAY for FREE....with a decent undercard of course...

:nono: NO..they are above the usual promoter..they are former boxers they know how it feel to get fucked by promoters esp. B. HOPKINS they mad their money in the ring..they should give something back to boxing.

i guess barrera wants to go out with a brutal KO loss to his record. i doubt he's dumb enough to take this fight. the best he could hope for is a rematch w/ JMM then call it quits.

i agree. but i wouldn't hold my breath. every company has to make money. especially if it intends on being in the game for the long haul. what will be interesting is to see what happens with GBP once ODH, Barrera, Hopkins and Mosley retire. GBP needs to have new stars to replace these guys if it expects to maintain it's edge. And making fights like Valero/Pacquiao isn't always the best strategy for doing so. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong.

Some of you guys are un-believable at least Barrera has the balls to fight a guy like this, makes you think, why isn't the PACMAN fighthing someone like this.

from what i have seen of Valero, Barrera would be a pretty firm favourite in my eyes. Valero can certainly hit but he's upright and his footwork is slow...he's not hard to hit.

Barrera has made a habbit out of proving people wrong, and if this fight is made and the consensus is that Valero will end his career, i think he'll be making people eat their words once again.

His defeat to Marquez was very narrow, Valero maybe bigger and stronger than Marquez, but he's some way behind in most other departments.

I'm getting tired of the Edwin Valero USA return talks. When his ban is lifted in the states, I'll start paying more attention.

Also, a California clearance means little to Nevada and more importantly NY, who placed the ban on Valero in the first place. The CA commission has been a joke for years, was disbanded a couple of years ago and just now attempting to put back together all of the pieces.

When NY lifts their ban, that's when I'll give this a realistic look.

For Valero to get back, he has to go state by state to get licensed; like Joe Mesi.

No way Barrerra fight this guy, he had is lesson with Pacman, he won't risk facing another semi-unkonwn power puncher again, especially at this stage of his career.

This fight should happen. It is a perfect test for Valero. If he passes, he can move on to stardom, if he fails, he's Rocky Jaurez.

I just think that Valero is a very poor fighter in terms of technique.
He can hit and has good handspeed, but it is open and very off-balance, off-balance to the point of being somewhat comical in there, like a novice golden glover.
He reminds me of another inept champion from the past with a gaudy knockout record, Elisha Obed, who was wiped out the first time he fought a good and determined fighter, and slipped into obscurity soon afterwards.
I'll beleive this fight happens when I see it as well.

Karl Valero has shit handspeed, his handspeed is like that of the average middleweight. Sloppy and slow.

    Barrera by late stoppage.
