The WBO heavyweight title is up for grabs, as champion Shannon Briggs defends his title against former Olympian Silver Medalist Sultan Ibragimov this Saturday at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. But by no means is this the heavyweight championship of the world. But in today's day and age there is no such thing. At least the winner on this heavyweight explosion could arguably stake his claim as one of the leading candidates of the division. http://fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=404
The winner can claim to be the weakest titlist. Chagaev is mediocre, what does that make Ibragimov and Briggs, who combined cannot match Chagaev´s record or skill. Ibragimov has gotten progressively better. How did you notice? When Ray Austin put him on his butt or his convincing victories over Goofi and Friday. If Ibragimov was any good, there would be no doubt about the outcome of the fight.
Ibragimov had an unexpected parade after the Goofi win,..:notallthere: the suckers should've taken notice of Goofi's form, namely, one of which revealed the career ending fine-print of..."Luan Krasniqi KO 5" heading in,.....WTF!!!..........*squeaaaal!!* :eeeek: ................ Ibragimov should've been labelled a BUM not a fucking hero!?, Luan can barely beat David Bostice, Ray Austin eventually brought Sultan back down to earth thankfully, but Ray did go on to bigger and better things I must admit, :: like being arse-raped by Wlad with just one hand :: , just one hand...Wlad usually looks a bit intense against his opponents, but in this fight, he skipped around SMILING,..he was truelly embarrassed to be there,.......that should've been a rap for poor ol' Sultan :: -----career over get the fuck out of here with that shit/,...Briggs will SMASH his arse, Sultan's a skid mark.
dsimon writes: War Briggs!!! Continue your march to the top, look out Sam Peter, Klitchko and all you pretenders to the throne... Keep those belts nice and polished for Shannon!! :: ::
and you base this on what? Briggs win over Lyakovich is more impressive than anything Ibragamov ever did. He drew with Austin and as KaukipRrr said, we all saw how that turned out for him when he face someone good. Then he destroys Javier Mora. Whoopty freaking doo! Briggs by KO, early.
Now I want the writer of this piece to come in here and explain this comment and I want him to do so with actual examples. "I agree with Floyd Mayweather when he said that UFC is for guys who couldn't make it in boxing. It's just simply not comparable." I'd like a list of guys who tried to box and couldn't "make it" but "made it" in MMA. I don't want to hear about Jeremy Williams and Butterbean either, because they are far from the top guys in MMA. They have not "Made it" in MMA.
"With the fall of the organization's two best fighters (St. Pierre and Lidell) and Crocop's visually shocking KO loss to Gonzaga, you wonder how the sport would carry on when their supposed best fighters go down like that. In the long run, it's something to think about. You'll never see that happen to a guy like Mayweather or De La Hoya. At least not within their respective primes." You'd never see Mayweather or Delahoys in the octagon fighting with 4oz gloves either. I don't see why people insist on comparing the two, it's not even close to the same.
have u seen any of his fights? He sucked balls. Didn't Vito Belfort have a fight? If Pulver was so good, why didn't he continue to fight? I remember in one of his fights, he got dropped by some bum with 5 or 6 fights and looked like shit in winning a 4 rounder. He said he always wanted to be a pro boxer, but was obviously honest in his self-assessment since he quit after 4 fights.
i have nothing against MMA. I was a big fan of Pride and now I resort to watching UFC since it's gotten a lot better. but what amuses me is when two wrestlers like Diego Sanchez and Josh Koscheck decide to stand up and box rather than grapple, which is what their primary expertise is on. it amuses me when commentators say 'Randy Couture outboxed Tim Sylvia' when Couture is a former NCAA finalist and an alternate in the Olympics. sure, versatility is important, but don't tell me that because Quinton Jackson KTFOed Lidell would lead any suspicion as to why he would be a force in boxing. vice versa, i dont think boxers would do well in MMA, but in my opinion, boxing is MUCH harder to succeed in, than in MMA. Tito Ortiz was an average collegiate wrestler. Randy was world class and it showed when they faced off. Koschek was a better wrestler than Sanchez, but he lost the first fight because he didnt know how to fight. You could see in the rematch that once Sanchez realized that Koscheck could actually defend himself and hit back, the fight was over since it was obvious that Koscheck would've won easily in a grappling contest. How about the fact that Gardner came straight out of the olympics to fight Yoshida and dominate? what does that say about MMA? it seems like any world class grappler can just sign up and become a contender or a champ in less than 3 or 4 professional bouts. that's some competitive sport right there.
He was very lucky to win that fight, he dropped the guy, an off balance shot in the 1st, but was beaten up badly in the 3rd and 4th.
Only idiots would argue that MMA is far easier to pierce ( at them moment ) than boxing, the talent pool of MMA is a far cry from the one in boxing.
