After witnessing the Mayweather-ODLH and Taylor-Spinks borefests we have another big name fight with the potential to let us down big time. Hopkins-Wright has the potential to be a horrendous low punch-count kind of fight where both guys go home without so much as a bruise. On top of that Forrest-Baldomir truely lacks the potential to save the card ala Pavlavic-Miranda. Forrest is a safety first boxer who doesn't take chances and his erroded skills have made him look like a C-level fighter lately.

Dispite how much some of you feel Floyd-ODLH wasn't that bad, most critics came away disappointed. On top of all that, there appears to be a growing competitiveness being brewed up between boxing and ufc, neither of whom have looked great lately. Hopefully Hopkins-Wright can beat the odds and be exciting and pull ahead in the race, because if our big name fights can't deliver the goods, boxing is in big trouble.

I actually think this fight turns out to be better than most think. not because it looks good on paper, simply because...well, just call it a hunch. I dunno. Fuck a reason.

    IT WILL BE GOOD.

..because expectations are the lowest of all-time. It cannot possibly be worse than people expect it to be.

Winky/Hopkins is a damn good fight. You have to appreciate skills of course. NO sense expecting a brawl and an exciting fight.

I don't think it helps or hurts boxing. IT's just another fight featuring two of the best fighters pfp. people gotta take it for what it is and stop making these fights bigger than what they are.

:nono: Lowest of all-time was Spinks v Taylor.

Winky v Hopkins is gonna be good I tell you. Not just better than expected. GOOD. Im willing to bet Valdarvers money on it too. :slap:

So you don´t expect some " I´m shocked how bad this PPV was, I´ll never order another one" threads afterwards.

Well you might be right about the Hops-Wright fight, especially since Wright has been fighting so much less defensively lately. If he does it with Hopkins then it could be good for the layman, but I actually prefer the more defensive version of Wright.

Regardless though, I guarantee the Forrest-Baldomir fight will suck ass. Forrest boreability is very underrated, he should be just under guys like Spinks, and Ruiz.

My bad, I'm mentioning that fight because seeing as how I don't buy PPV's, my undercard will include that fight for the HBO replay.

It just seems that these days a lot of fighters try not to lose, rather than win.

Winky is always exciting. He his a non stop puncher with a great defense. Hopkins is a stinky fighter. One of the worst fighters to watch in history. If it is shit blame him.

Winky catches a bad rap for being dull. He rarely knocks anyone out nowadays, but he generally stays in the pocket and throws a lot of leather. He was even involved in a pretty exciting Jermaine Taylor fight.

I didn't find Hopkins dull in his younger days (he had his stinkers here and there though), but since 2004, Hopkins's workrate has gone down because at his age he has to pick his spots a lot more. That has resulted in some of the most boring title fights I've seen in recent years.

Exactly. It's like the toughness has been drained right out of boxing. Where are the tough guys who would just try to beat you til you couldn't take anymore? Guys like Duran, or Hagler. I think having guys like RJJ and Mayweather ruined things. People tried to emulate them and now everyone looks and acts like wimps.

Hell the last time some of today's fighters were in a grueling boxing match, they were playing as somebody else on ESPN's Fightnight.

winky is exciting, but his fights are rarely dramatic. i guess he's sorta consistent, but i could see why people think he's a boring fighter.

hopkins had some exciting fights vs. echols (both times), robert allen (the first two), and also had some awesome KOs (i.e, joe lipsey, steve frank).

the only time I found him truly boring was in fights against Eastman, De La Hoya, Allen III, and both Taylor fights.

The Hopkins-Taylor fight looked like the kind of fight were both guys tried not to lose rather than trying to win. The Wright-Taylor fight looked like both guys trying to bash each other's heads in. It seemed Wright was trying like hell to prove JT wasn't in the same league as him and JT was trying like hell to prove he was. Hopefully Wright will bring the same kind of fire out of B-Hops.

Notice those are pretty much all his last fights. I agree with you. Probably his last fight he had that was good was him beating the piss out of Joppy. He absolutely dominated that one.

There's still tough guys with aggressive mindsets. Mosley, Pacquiao, Morales. Duran was involved in plenty of stinkers himself and Hagler was a boxer-puncher anyway.

Me too, but that might just be because I enjoyed watching Tarver get humiliated.

I did too. I thought it would be the worst fight in history though so my expectations couldn't have been met. It was good. I even rewatched it a few times.

Yeah, Hopkins looked good, but Tarver offered up such little resistance that it was boring. Not boring in a Spinks running kind of way, but in a Roy Jones beating a hopeless opponent for 12rds kind of way.

Winky is a "non-stop" arm puncher. That's half of the problem. Hopkins is the other half.

I loved that fight. I'll admit I loved it out of pure hate for Tarver though. I could watch that fight a million times. I never get tired of seeing milkdud get humiliated.

That's what was so great about it. Tarver was supposed to beat Bernard, not get schooled and turned into a little bitch.

Fuck that. Vargas DLH was a chess match and that was a great fight. DLH/Floyd was boring. Floyd ran, held and pulled a Jimmy Young impression everytime De la Zombie got within an inch of him. It was unwatchable and by the third round I was bored. I like a good boxing match, but this was stink, pure and simple.

I'm actually looking forward to this fight. But I'm a true fan of the sport and enjoy all different fighting styles. I think that Winky is gonna make Hopkins fight where he likes to conserve his energy. The question is is Hopkins gonna be able to penetrate Winkys defense and will Winky's jab be too much for Hops. And we don't know how the weight thing is gonna be. There are so many unanswered questions that makes this thing exciting. But like I said before I'm a boxing fan. I'll Holla 5000
