Seriously, that fight was the shit. As soon as Houston saw the opening for the uppercut he just killed Jardine over and over with it. That was great.
I have to give Jardine credit though. He took that many right hand flush bombs from the hard punching Houston along with 4 flush uppercuts before he finally got laid out. He must have a decent chin to have gotten up that many times from the uppercut to the jaw. Houston is reputed to have very powerful punches.
When the fight was over and Houston was walking around the ring, I thought he was looking for someone else to punch! The dude looked absolutely pissed off. ::
Because you casually brush off the same issues in that sport that you continuously bitch about with boxing. I clearly said before and today that I won't order the card. I just pointed out WHY it was on PPV - HBO and Showtime passed, and none of the other networks wanted to put up the dough to air it. But way to miss the point anyway. so you're willing to spend - what $30,$40 - on intrigue? Got it. and yet you decided to shit on Pacquiao-Morales III last year? The difference is I regularly voice my opinion on what's wronf with boxing. You claim to do the same with MMA, but then after ridiculing a card like tomorrow night end your post with "I DOUBT that I will still order it." If a boxing card is shit, I won't order it, no "doubt/maybe/debating" about it. I've "only" ordered 4 PPV's in the last two years, and none of the others came with any Donnybrooking on whether or not to order.
Wow, that was brutal. Still, boxing sucks. I am a huge fan, but I hopeit goes out of business for a few years and they make it an organized sport. I wish Dana White got into it. He knows how to run things. It seems the new powerhouseis G and they have the worst cards yet.
First off, it was a joke. And anyway, I didn't say it because you disagreed with me, I said it because you almost never have anything positive to say about boxing, and conveniently avoid any counterpoints to your generalizations about the sport. And again, show me where I voice anything less than an objective opinion on the state of the game. You're not a realist, you're someone who constantly bitches about the way things have become. Boxing has become a shitty industry, but your argument is similar to that of those who blamed the 1999 NBA lockout on "greedy players", overlooking that it was the owners who imposed the lockout. Same shit with boxing, only in this case, it's the promoters and networks playing the role of owners.
yeah, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind seeing boxing completely bottom out and have to start from scratch. not sure I agree (or necessarily disagree) on the Dana White part.
Yep... Shannon Briggs is a Fairly INTERESTING Person & a Half Way DECENT Fighter, but he should NEVER Headline a PPV...EVER... Ditto for Ibragimov... Like TWIN,REED'll B Watching Bron-Bron vs Detroit,2Morrow Night... REED
Not true, although it is much easier to give MMA a pass then it is boxing, because MMA, UFC especially, is doing a lot right. In MMA, the good outshines the bad. Not so in boxing. So what is your point, that the Briggs PPV is a perfect example of how shitty boxing has become? If so, then we're in agreement. Maybe. At least there's a chance it could be exciting. You won't get that with the Briggs fight. And at least there's intrigue for more then 1 fight, which is more then you can say for most boxing PPV's. Will K1 be lousy? Probably. I wouldn't be shocked if it's cancelled at the last minute. But it could turn out to be excellent. That's the beauty of MMA. I don't think I shit on that fight, but I sure as hell didn't buy the PPV. But that has less to do with it's lousy undercard then it did that it fell on the night of my wedding. I guess I'm just a bigger MMA fan then you are a boxing fan. TFK
How is it easier to give MMA a pass? How long has it been around - and they're already showing as much (if not more) of its cards on PPV than is boxing. So again I say, your stance within this thread is a perfect example of your hypocrisy. You acknowledge that both PPV cards this weekend are shit. Yet you start a thread to shit on Briggs-Ibragimov, while still contemplating (even though you're "leaning" toward no) whether or not to order the equally shitty Elite XC card. Apparently my point is the one I made earlier, that you cherry pick the posts you respond to, while ignoring arguments that remove credibility from your claims. For the umpteenth time, the fight is on PPV because none of the networks expressed interest in airing it. HBO is only interested in HVY fights that involve Klitschko. Showtime elected to air this crappy MMA show instead of boxing, and elected for next week's telecast to air an even worse fight than this one. ESPN, Telefutura, Telemundo, FoxSports - if a fight cost more than $50,000, they're not interested in airing it. So, once again in simplest terms, they put this on PPV for the sake of having some sort of television involved. If it wasn't PPV, it wouldn't be on TV at all. Capiche? Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Ibragimov made Ray fuckin' Austin look exciting last year. Who's to say that this fight won't turn out to be exciting. People thought Briggs-Botha was going to be a dull and shitty fight. They were half right, it was a shitty fight on skill level, but an entertaining one, nevertheless. Shamone Alvarez (who fights in the co-feature) has never been in a bad fight, to date. So far I'm 0-1 in being fully intrigued by any aspect of a live MMA show. Can I judge the sport as a whole based on that? Of course not. But so far, I'm not seeing what others are seeing. And i find it absurd that MMA fans are telling me every month that I should invest $40 to watch that month's UFC (##), that i'll be hooked. How is that different from what boxing's become? I understand the wedding part, but your contention was that it was a card you wouldn't order, regardless of what night it was aired. All three Pac-Morales fights were exciting, even the third fight that was a one-way train wreck. And of the four fights that aired that night, only Torres-Arnaoutis failed to deliver, excitement-wise. One man's trash is another man's treasure, because all three Pac-Morales cards had AT LEAST two fights per card that managed to entertain/excite from beginning to end. I seriously doubt it, but it's something neither one of us can prove, therefore an exercise in futility. I'm a boxing fan to the end, just like I will die a Knicks, NY Giants and Yankees fan. Doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion on the negatives each have to offer.
Well, it's settled. I'm ordering the PPV. Is it because I think it's a great card? No. Is it because I'm pumped for some of these fights? No. It's because I'm going with my wife over to her friend's house for dinner, and this gives me an excuse to make sure I don't have to be there, bored out of my skull, all night long. And having an excuse to leave is well worth the $35 the PPV will cost. TFK
Having not read the entire threat I was going to ask which ppv, but I guess the price tag gave that answer away.
MMA PPV KO1 Boxing PPV Watching Johnny Morton get knocked stiff was worth the cash... Meanwhile, I personally paid Briggs 15 per punch landed for the boxing PPV.. What a joke...
Lesnar won in Round 1... He slammed the Korean dude to the ground, got on top and started pounding his head.. Korean tapped....
Lesnar got an easy take down, as strong as he is, you're gonna need a hell of a sprawl to stop it, and then he just GNP'd until Kim tapped out. TFK
I thought Gracie should have lost the decision, but they gave it to him... Boring fight in my opinion...
I just saw the replay a minute ago, pathetic. Briggs was gone after one round, and Sultan, well he's Sultan, and that isn't much.
the extreme xc shown on showtime before the ppv last night really sucked...from the announcing, to the timing, to the matchups, to the results...all very weak
Here's a link to the fight...TFK posted it in in the MMA section. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x25kyw_brocklesnarvsminsookim
