He's fighting Rubin Williams, who Lacy easily handled. Is Pascal any good? Hasn't there been quite a bit of hype surrounding his rise, or no?

He's good, but he really needs to step it up. Williams is a slight improvement over the type of opponents he's been fighting recently.

been following Pascal since the 2002 Commonwealth games where he was pretty much regarded as the fighter of the tournament.

I know he's canadian, but still a little surprised that he hasn't recieved more coverage in the states, i thought he might sign for one of the big promoters.....i guess he's probably just keeping things close to home.

From looking at his record and some clips on the net he seems to be coming along nicely, although steve_dave and other canadian posters will have more basis to their views.

Williams certainly seems like a step up. Lacy beat him pretty comprehensively but Williams gave a decent accound of himself...i don't remember him being dominated from start to finish

I also remember Williams being KOed in about 50 seconds by Mendoza. He's not really any good.

I was never a fan of his, but this is one of the best FNF we've had in a long time.

Yeah, no doubt. It's a bit of a throwback to the early parts of the decade, before the budget cuts. Really nicely matched card.

    Two things:

    1) Isn't Ngoudjo fighting Randall Bailey on this card as well? I thought I remember some obnoxious Warriors Boxing press release (though is there any other kind, from them) claiming Bailey was 1 fight away from conquering the 140 lb. division, this being the fight. Both Pascal and Ngoudjo are GYM fighters, so I'm guessing they're on the same card :dunno:

    2) Is Williams still the opponent? I thought he pulled out of the fight, or his manager pulled him out.

Yeah, Bailey-Ngoudjo is the main event. Warriors seems like they pay people around the clock to constantly write press releases. Hey, it worked for Robert Guererro in the early part of his career.

I didn't hear anything about Williams pulling out. If that's true...that would be a real shame.

This year has been weak on ESPN2, I believe, but last year was very solid after the budget cuts...especially wednesday night fights which had more than a few title fights...as I remember.

the difference being that Guerrero has a lot more respect for the game, and most of his opponents, than does Warriors. All they do is talk shit about everyone - at least until one of their fighters is beaten into humility (like Miranda).

Apparently Williams had a car crash and hurt his neck so he pulled out.

Ignoring knowledge and indulging in echolocation.
Jean Pascal is another hot prospect at 168lb, that division is sure having a hard time staying 'the weakest'.

At short notice like that I doubt we'll get someone better than Williams and given GYM past history, they're not the kind to take unecessary risks with their prospects (or even risks alone) so I doubt they'll put Pascal in there with someone that could make him look bad. Basically, this fight is to give Pascal a bit of exposure in the states. He HAS to look good.

Team Cannon. They also have a habit of getting rid of fighters if the company's "0 Losses" are tainted in any way:lol:

I've watched alot of tape on Pascal. I thought we were going to fight back in March for NABO Super-Mid Title. It fell apart. My trainer was at his last fight and came back like  . He said his speed and power is out of this world! Rubin has been around the block but he's got his work cut out. This is a step up for Jean and there are some things on tape a vet can expose ;that's if one can weather the storm of the physical gifts.

seriously. I mean, Marteze Logan used to run Lafarell's sorry ass outta the gym back in the day - and Marteze, about 20-30 lb lighter no less, ain't exactly a dedicated gym rat.

It's good FOR an ESPN card. Ngoudjo really isn't all that great himself, even if in his prime. He gave Castillo a tough fight, but Bailey is still hovering around gatekeeper-type. He's teetering on shot, but still has one-punch power, and I've never been convinced that Ngoudjo can take a punch.

who would win augustus-bailey? that would be a decent, more evenly-matched up fight.

Rubin gave Lacy a pretty good fight, I thought. Good back-and-forth action with Williams catching Lacy quite a bit with the right hand.

I haven't seen any of Pascal to judge how good he is (or isn't).

Pascal is now facing Christian Cruz, whose claims to fame are:

    - being the first to extend Lucian Bute to the 12th round (where Cruz got stopped)
    - being the first to extend Renan St. Juste the full eight-round distance (losing every round to a junior middleweight that was dropped and soundly beaten by my homeboy, journeyman Sammy Sparkman)

I liked Pascal a couple of years ago. Maybe I'll start caring again when he fights someone.
