Terribly unwatchable fight, but who wins?

It'd be pretty entertaining, cause Pea would beat the shit outta him.

Pea's by FAR the greater fighter...not even close.

    "However"

Pernell wasn't known for power, especially at the higher weights and Spinks would have a significant height and reach advantage and would have a rather unfamiliar style for Pernell.

It wouldn't be an easy fight for Whitaker.

Pea was a sharp enough puncher to hurt Cory IMO, and make him extra defensive. I dont think its that a hard a fight for Pea, not after about 4 rounds. Pea could do his thing all night long, whereas Spinks always fades after 4-5. Against Pea, once he starts to fade, he'd get embarassed. Pea would punish his body, and stun him with straight lefts all night. Pernell by 10-2 or 9-3 decision. At the MOST Spinks wins 4 rounds.

that said, the welterweight version of Whitaker was never one to do all that much in the championship rounds. More often than not, because his arrogance always led him to believe he had the fight in the bag at that point.

I don't know, I can see Cory taking some of the early rounds, fading in the second half, but still being there at the end to steal a late round and perhaps the fight.

I don't necessarily think it will be unwatchable either (this is more toward Sly's earlier suggestion). Neither would be much of a threat to hurt the other, which I believe would result in far less running/fighting backwards. Won't be Corrales-Castillo I or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if it became similar to Spinks-Zab I, which I thought was a damn good fight.

Spinks, at 147, would've been considerably quicker than Pee-wee. And his movement and distance would've created a lot of problem for Pee-wee. Pee-wee would need to bore in a brawl the way he tried to against Tito. He'd probably succeed against Spinks.

stinks rarely 'WINS' rounds. he just makes the other guy miss and land like 2 or 3 more punches to barely win the round. whitaker, at least the mid 90s welterweight version would've thrown more punches and gone to the body.

i'd say whitaker gives away a round or two.

    LOL at this thread.

    Whitaker wins...

although the ever-popular "not the fans" is also acceptable

The Heavyweight GOAT lost to Leon Spinks. Roberto Duran lost to Kirkland Laing. Shit happens.

It's very possible that Spinks squeezes out a close decision against Whitaker, given the styles and the weight class...

more importantly, less holding (since as we know holding is done to avoid getting hit, hurt or tired.

    yes it would be

Spinks was a leap amateur, to use Irish's parlance, with ZERO power and 1/30 the skills of Whitaker

you honestly think Whitaker wouldn't figure him out after a few rounds and start having a field day with him? ... Whitaker had more than enough power to sting a sissy like Cory Spinks, he wins this going away
