Final Prediction: Miguel Cotto vs. Zab Judah

Last I remember was Corley hitting Cotto hard to the body when he was hurt. He landed a solid shot at the end of the round but didnt seem to hurt Cotto.

 

Going with my head on this pick. Cotto UD.

II'll be rooting like hell for Zab to knock Cotto's head off though.

The popular opinion seems to be that Zab will have success early and then Cotto will break him down and eventually beat the fight out of him and stop him. And that is the easy pick to make, and probably the most likely outcome.

But I am going with the upset on this one.

I am drinking the Judah Kool-Aide this time around, and I think Zab has the right opponent in this spot. When he's not at his best, Cotto is a predictable plodder with average handspeed. I think a focused Judah will have lots of tactical advantages with which to work.

Zab's hand speed will carry the early-to-middle rounds, and his straight left will provide just enough pop to frustrate Cotto when he tries to get close and work the body.

Judah is right: Cotto DOES need to be set to punch, and he cannot fight going backwards. I think Miguel is going to be in too much of a hurry to get inside on Judah and will not be cautious about picking up Judah's shots as he comes in.

I know I make look foolish in retospect for this one, but my gut tells me that Judah will make Cotto look very ORDINARY for stretches of this fight, similar to Wright-Tito.

The main question of course will be whether or not Judah puts together a solid 36 minutes or pisses away his good fortune. I think he holds on this time.

I expect a good fight, one that warrants a rematch.... but Judah holds on for a MD or close UD here.

Off by two rounds... :: ...I thought Judah would begin to backpedal, pot-shot and fight to survive after round 8 or so....and that Cotto would be just cautious and methodical enough to avoid closing the show while winning the fight.
