I remember reading about Mayweather calling out Shane years ago...one of the mags (Boxing Monthly) had a story on it, though there might have been others that reported it as well. Mayweather was calling Shane's name out early on...but the fight wasn't exactly practical then. Mayweather didn't win a lightweight title until 2002. There wasn't much interest in the fight at the time, despite what Mayweather was saying.

Shane was totally handled by a guy with a jab. Shane has good fighting spirit and he is pretty fast, but nothing Floyd could't handle.
dsimon writes: Like he did against Forrest right? Shane is ok as long as the guy on the other side of him wants to basically slug it out. He has no real footwork and he fights on instinct more than technique. Cotto would be a lot more dangerous opponent for Mayweather.
I agree Cotto is more dangerous, though I think the one thing I like about Cotto, Mosley and Margarito is that they all go to the body. I actually think Margarito might actually have more success doing it consistently than the other two, because his size and length allow him to throw from more of a distance and because he can generate more snap on his punches down to the body than he can to the head (where he tends to loop his punches more). Cotto needs to crowd more to land to the body, and while he's willing to do it, he will leave himself open - as he has a tendancy to get single-minded offensively - and Mayweather is an expert counter-puncher. The uppercut - which was available for Judah - will be thrown with more frequency by Mayweather.

Jakes Rule #7 posters from the same geographical area must agree with at least one minor detail of a fellow poster's views.:: 1) Mosley goes to the body a bit but not in the deliberate fashion of a guy like Cotto. 2) Margarito is dangerous that way the same way JCC junior is. It is a hallmark of a good Mexican fighter actually. 3) Yes, Cotto will get hit but Mayweather has about the same amount of power, maybe less than Judah. Mayweather has great footwork, he can turn Cotto and he will counter him but Cotto will get inside occasionally. I think Mayweather wins but gets a beating in the process.
funny thing is Shane was offered the fight last november and gave the bullshit excuse about his tooth and that he made plans to take a vacation. Basically saying he had no plans on fighting the rest of the year. Around that time Arum kept making floyd the 8 million dollar offer. I remember Shane saying that if he was offered that deal he would sign the fight right away. :dunno: By the way I also think it's dumb that Shane is waiting around for a Fight with Floyd when Shane is not a priority for Floyd.
The fight itself would do a great draw, somply because of the matchup, there are many millions of people who want to see who can beat Floyd, so If they have a solid fighter who many feel even has a decent chance at winning, they will pay their money to tune in, Floyd has just as many people who want him to lose as those that want him to win!!
Its common knowledge by now that Mosley will fight anybody, considering he's fought guys he could (and many say he should) have avoided like Wright and Forrest. {ersonally I think it was the timing of it. When Mosley had just finished with Vargas he was noncommital on Mayweather because De La Hoya had not decided whether he was going to fight Mayweather or not. Since Mosley is under Goldon Boy now, its pretty safe to say he'd wait until De La Hoya made a decision before saying anything. Now if Mosley says he doesnt want the fight now I'll probably agree, but I don't see that happening given Mosley's history.
