if some guy looking to post about boxing, and came and saw this ridiculous thread he would leave and think morons post on this board, and he would be right for the most part
Don't judge too fast, Mayweather has a lot of haters and Cotto just won an exciting fight. Do the same poll in a few weeks and you'll get a whole different picture. I must admit I'm surprised though, I thought Cotto was underappreciated and I voted Mayweather in this poll, seems that I was dead wrong.::
Floyds fighting more like Paul Spadafora with each fight, little offense and plenty of defense = boring. On a side note, did he really retire?? Oh yeah I pick PrettyBitch by boring UD
dsimon writes: I apologize Massacre that post of mine was silly :notallthere: Coto versus Mayweather would be one of those classic confrontations.... you know the mongoose versus the snake, etc. These guys counterpoint each other. Floyd has the skills to deal with the likes of Cotto and Cotto is learning fight by fight how to guarantee that his opponent gets manhandled. There is virtually no way I can think of to predict the winner of a fight like this. Yes Floyd is skilled but can he survive a war with Cotto? Can his straight accurate punches keep Cotto at bay? when Floyd is smothered can he counterpunch? Cotto even if he is a less skilled fighter could shut Floyd down if he can neutrlize the better fighter on any of these accounts listed above. Also, Cotto is alot better than people think. His fighting style isn't pretty but it takes just as much skill to develop as Floyd's style. Finally, can Floyd really fight this guy without a range finder like a jab? just a thought.
Styles make fights and Cotto does have the style to make a good fight with Mayweather. We all know we will go for broke for 12 rounds and thats whats needed to beat Mayweather. Now will be beat Mayweather is another story. Floyd can be beat, he's not invinsible. Look what happened to a better fighter in RJ.
Yep, Floyd's not invincible but at times he appears invisible to his opponents..such is his ghostly elusiveness. :tease:
PRIME Roy Jones was better than Floyd..but not the older affected-by-the-move-up-and-down-in-weight-from-Heavyweight version.
dsimon writes: Jones was a totally different kind of fighter you can't compare the two. Also because they fought and developed at vastly different weight classes you can't even hypothesize about who wins. The strategies and skills change considerably in these two weight classes IMO. Toney is the closest to Mayweather that Roy fought and I will concede that is some basis for comparison. Toney couldn't counter Roy and maybe Mayweather would not have been able to either.
Maybe at the moment because Floyd Mayweather is Mr. Untouchable, Mr. Unbeatable...but once they actually fight in the ring and Cotto Ko's him...we will look like a bunch of geniuses...
