That and that lying fatso Lou Duva.
I tried interviewing him a few years back. It was difficult making out what he was saying, and using a recorder was impossible. He still eats like a king, but when you look closely, it's all healthy food. He says that he can't get out of the habit of maintaining weight. He said he has five buildings in the philadelphia area that keeps him paid, so he's doing well. He says he's not as bad off as people think, but one has to wonder if he really is, since he continued his career for so long.
How did his legal issues pan out, that insurance fraud he was in on?? I never heard how that panned out. Duva and Steele let him down bad.
What was the problem with using a recorder??? Yeah, people make out he had nothing left. He did buy his daughter property, so....:dunno:
The problem with using a recorder is that he slurs his words so bad, that I couldn't trust a recorder to play back clearly what it was he was saying. I never asked about the legal issues. Duva is not to blame. He was strictly brought in to do crazy shit like that. He says it himself. He was nothing but a hype man.
That 5-second clip of William Nack's commentary reminded me of how much I miss his writing about boxing. He had some truly classic articles.
He told Meldrick he needed the last round, when it wasn't the case. He also says he told Meldrick to move in the last round, but the video shows us the exact opposite.
Yeah Lou is lying when he says he told Taylor to dance and play it safe. In terms of strategy it was wrong, although I can see why he told him he needed to win the round. You can never be that sure, especially in Vegas and a pro-Chavez crowd. I blame Duva a lot though for getting up on the ring apron when Taylor went down. Taylor was looking at Lou when he should have been answering to Steele.
Indeed, Taylor seemed in condition to continue the fight, but Steele had no choice to stop it since he didin't answered him.
