That just shows you how senile Emanuel Steward has gone. It's not illegal. More tape = less chance for lacing. Its actually encouraged by the majority of commissions.

Taping of hands is where issues arise. Not of gloves. You're allowed to tape your gloves up as tight as you want. It's Judah's choice, just like Cotto's.

think about it - it's compressing more of the glove inside the tape - pulling it tighter against the fist. you see?

 

Did the tape on the gloves have some organic muscle tissue that locked onto cotto's forearms, making his punches more powerful?

Maybe the tape even had some kind of quick release steroid that is absorbed by the skin?

i don't know if it's illegal or not - but it definitely allows you to do more damage.

and it's not about Emmanuel's senility. He said it's an old trick - I forget what he called it - scraping the gloves or something like that. but okay. feel free to ignore and pretend none of these things matter - whatever level of simplicity you're comfortable with i invite you to enjoy.

and i don't agree with you that you can tape it as high as you want - if you did that, you could compress nearly all of the padding into the tape, leaving none at the end of the glove. do you understand? have you ever worn boxing gloves?

 

The funny thing is, tape isn't even used for that reason. If you've ever worn a taped glove, youll know right away that the "tightness" comes from the laces. The only reason tape is really used these days is to protect the opponent. Nothing else.
