    Right.

EVERYONE can sign a contract that says they are gonna get paid millions. If you don't try to win, you didn't show heart.

The guy never quit in the corner, or quit after being knocked down, unlike a lot of champions in the past several years have.
The guy had and has, plenty of balls.

It takes heart to get into the ring to start with. All fighters in that sense have heart.
Heart, for a fighter, for me, is the ability to suck it up & triumph, or attempt to triumph @ all costs in the face of adversity.
Consequently, the easiest way to see if a fighter has heart is to see how he reacts in that situation. Untill he is in that situation it's hard to tell. You can get a bit of idea (make an inference) from less-adverse situations, but you're never really sure untill that extreme situation presents itself.
For me, when RJJ found himself in that situation, he failed the heart test.

To me failing a heart test is pulling a Kostya Tszyu, an Acelino Freitas, or an Israel Vasquez QUIT JOB.
It does take a certain amount of balls to get in that ring, you are correct, and I agreee wholeheartedly.
Quitting seems to be an increasingly disturbing trend in boxing today and yeah Jones has had his lights punched out, but he has never quit.

So Kostya Tszyu getting beat up badly trying to win a fight and then can not take anymore so quits shows he has no heart. But Roy prancing around a whole fight more worried about not getting KO'd than winning shows more heart? Please

I'm a Zoo fan, but there is no getting away from the fact that he QUIT. That was a blatent lack of heart.
However, you can also quit in a fight in the sense that you stop trying to win & just want to go the distance.
Going out on your sword-trying to win, even when you know you might get KTFO in the process-wanting to win at all costs-that IMO is heart. I didn't see that in RJJ.

RJJ just wants money. plain and simple. that's why he faced Tarver a third time, and it's why he's facing Hanshaw. i don't blame him. if someone would pay me millions to get in the ring, even if i had tons already, it'd be tough to turn it down. moreso than anything, that's what determines when a fighter retires. most of the time. it's when he can no longer earn that he retires. of course, there's exceptions. both ways. super competitive guys who will fight on even when the money's not there, and other guys who will retire despite the lingering opportunity to make millions.

but in RJJ's case, he's just in it to make money. and that's always going to establish limits on how far he's willing to dig. you watch. if he's not having an easy time with hanshaw, he'll quit for sure. and i don't blame him. at this point, he's got the wash cloth in his hand, twisted up, and he's just ringing out the last drops of cash there's left for him in the sport. that's how i see it anyways.

Yeah, I pretty much agree w/ this. He had the heart but not the confidence. If Roy had no heart there would have been no third fight to begin with..

Plus its like ppl always forget that first Tarver fight, where RJ showed a ton of heart and took the fight away from Tarver. A lot of ppl say Roy looked bad, but that's why its one of my favourite RJJ fights, He had to dig deep to get that win.

Yeah..Roy showed HEART in the first Tarver fight...but after he was knocked out in the return...he hasn't shown heart since. In fact he was a PUSSY in the third fight.

That's why I have great respect for Lennox Lewis. He was knocked THE FUCK out by Hasim Rahman. To borrow a phrase from Cedric the Entertainer...he was more knocked out that most people have been knocked out in the history of knockoutedness! He was FAR more knocked out that Jones was knocked out against Tarver.

    "HOWEVER"

He came back in an IMMEDIATE rematch...and, more importantly, in that fight...he showed ZERO FEAR and went after Rahman with spite and returned the favour!!

    That's a TRUE warrior.

Yeah I agree, Jones did fight scared in the third fight. He was okay in the first several rounds and I think he listened to his fathers advice to much and became to passive. I was so disappointed in the way he foght from the middle rounds on, although he did show some heart in the later rounds.

Lewis/Rahman is a good example, but there is some differences. Lewis knew he could knock Rahman out. To be honest, Lewis was out of shape in the first fight and didn't take Rahman that seriously. He even called the Rahman punch "a lucky shot". Lewis has a habit of not training if he knows or thinks he can beat you (like the V Klit fight).

But come the rematch Lewis was focused and destroyed Rahman. I think Jones knew Tarver matched up well against him and wouldn't go as quickly. P4P speaking even though Tarver is not great hes was more skilled than Rahman and matched up against his opponent better.

That being said I still think Lewis has heart anyways, he's pretty underrated when it comes to that. He's had some boring fights, but he's also had some exciting ones too.

He quit trying to win in the 6th round of the Tarver rubbermatch.

Tszyu and Vasquez both showed WAY more heart in quitting than Roy did in that fight.

What a coincidence you just happened to quote my post.
I think any fighter that quits (particularly the two quitters you used as examples) should have their purses witheld pending an investigation by the state commission and state legislature.

This is a discussion board and I was replying to a post I disagree with. I didn't insult you.

What about a guy who clearly isn't trying to win? At least Tszyu and Vasquez gave the fans a fight. Tszyu had a bruised brain and broked ribs. Vasquez had a badly broken nose... both fought like warriors.

Roy didn't have a scratch on him and he bragged afterwards about going the distiance. IMO, that's way worse.
