I understand, I'm just saying Cotto isn't even the biggest welterweight let alone a big middleweight.

I agree with you on same day weigh-ins. Only problem is we would still have guys shedding tons of weight only to have no time to rehydrate. I do agree that guys should fight at their natural weight.

Same day weigh ins would get more fighters killed. They would still try to dehydrate and without the time to rehydrate there is more of a health risk.

Yep. It's just not going to happen. I wish fighters would fight at their actual weight though, but that ain't happening either.

At 140, I understand someone's gripe against Cotto.

Now that he's at 147, he's not packing on twenty pounds like he used to. This thread should be closed.

I saw Cotto before you saw him in San Antonio, and he looked like he was barely over 160.

Did he weigh-in at 147 pounds? Okay, end of topic. Next.

I'm saying that man had between 10 and 15 pounds on Judah in the ring that night, bottom line.
Not only is that dangerous, it's very unsportsmanlike as well.

Cotto didn't break any rules, it's not like his doctor had his foot under the scale.

Like Payton said, blame the system. Cotto is simply playing by the rules.

If he moved up to middleweight, he would be fighting guys you consider light heavyweights.

Why is cotto being singled out on this.

I saw Chico Corrales at the Morales Raheem fight, and he was bigger and wider than me, and I was 6' 150 at the time.

PLENTY of guys in the 118-168 area use their natural size as an advantage. What on earth makes Cotto worthy of being bagged on?

He's a good exciting fighter, and his proposed opponent (assuming all goes well) for later this year will be Margarito, now THATS a guy who could be bagged on, he's huge.

Seriously why are you hating on Cotto?

    ok "Stinger" "karl" huh???

have u ever talked to Margarito, Cintron etc... in person i bet those are more than 160 even... dunno what they would weigh in San Antonio, but i'm sure u would need to make a thread about it...

So i guess u don't like weigh-ins a day before the fight in BOXING, but this is a BOXING forum, u shouldn't critizise it - maybe u should find another sport because this isn't the place to adress your "issues" with a reigning WORLD CHAMPION!!!

Maybe u should hook up with Team Cotto and adress them with this shit.

Yeah I know Kermit and his people.
Met them when he iced Teddy Reid in Houston, nice cats to spend time with, did an interview later with Kerm and Joe Pastore that appeared on this site, in fact.
When Team Cotto comes through again, I'll hook up with them again.
Perhaps you didn't read my earlier posts in that I already brought the issue up with Miguel.
Some of us type about boxing and some of us do things in boxing in person, and I fall into the latter category.
You know my name since you put in parentheses.

    interesting topic.

The Gatti issue was a major issue and there were a lot of factors involved including Gatti not actually staying on the scale long enough to be weighed. As soon as the scale hit 140lbs he jumped off and starting drinking water. Secondly, some people believe that the scale was tampered with and was adjusted to read 5lbs less.

Regarding Cotto and size. That he's 160lbs I'm not sure, but why are people using his height to determine if he's a legit 160lbs? Maybe he is, but his height simply wouldn't allow him to be very competitive. Just look at Curtis Stevens, should he fight as a middleweight? He's not very tall. But it is what it is. Lucky for Cotto the weighing system works in his favor.

Actually that would be a good match. I also don't believe Tarver is a light heavyweight. He's killing himself to make weight.

if cotto can make 140 and perform the next night, then more power to him. that's not cheating.

i dont know where stinger is going w/ this true lightweight/welterweight concept, but just because a fighter doesnt kill himself to make weight doesn't make him a better/more professional fighter.

how did cory spinks ever make 147 when he could BARELY make 160 in his last fight. does that mean Stinks was never a true welterweight? what about his brief stint at 140?

I think his point was that its hypocritical to condemn Cotto as if its injustice and not do the same with Cintron, since he's even bigger.

    thats all:dunno:

i know man - u know i'm just teasing but i don't get why u r being hypocritical with Cotto... U act like he's the only guy who does this when cats like Cintron, Marga, Williams sure look more like middleweights come fightnight...

Why not adressing the topic in general and not picking a single fighter of the maybe 100s in all 17 weight classes who do this?? :dunno:

bottom line is he did. so if tarver moved up to cruiser and got KTFOed by Mormeck, is it because tarver sucks or because he's not a real cruiser?

plus, all bodies are different. some naturally have lower fat percentages than others and they also have different levels of metabolism.

No, we would have to adjust everyone I guess. Is Mormeck maybe just a small heavyweight? But Tarver sucks anyway

If Zab is so much smaller then the normal sized Welterweight Cotto , then why doesn't Zab fight at 140 ...

I honestly think Tito would have a good chance at knocking out Tarver. Tarver is such a lucky bum, it's not even funny.

I like Cotto, he's one of my favorite fighters.
I just don't think he ought to be at 147, I think he needs to fight at middleweight, and I'm not so sure that Jermain Taylor beats him.
I look at Griffith that moved up and did it, and Miguel IMO ought to do it as well.
I think he could probably beat Taylor.
