Kostya was told not to continue by his corner. He didn't argue the point so he basically quit but you think a guy should have his purse suspended for taking the advice of his trainer? Does the same apply to when the towel is thrown in?

I can't agree on this point.

I think purses should be witheld on all parties in the quitting corner (where the fighter is in no apparent distress, no imminent danger of being hurt) involved pending an investigation.
That has happened before, most notably to Bert Cooper who quit against George Foreman and had his purse witheld.
After tapes and other evidence are reviewed by the commission, then they should make a final determination based on their findings.

What if G-man stopped fighting just one punch soon enough before he got brain damaged ...

He would quailify as a quiter ? After the fight they were already questioning his heart. Imagine the bad wrap he would have gotten if he took those knees a bit sooner and never got the brain damage.

yeah but when you've been there and done that, like Karl has, it's tough to understand. a guy who puts his own life on the line (like Karl did) is going to have trouble excusing another's refusal to.

Tszyu had bruising on his brain and broken ribs. He wasn't in danger of being hurt?

the only thing i blame Tszyu for is not pursuing a rematch. i would've liked to see him insist on a rematch in Australia, or Vegas.

That makes some sense. Provided it is done impartially, I'd have no problem with it.

I almost said this myself but I assumed Karl meant that as part of the investigation, injuries would be a factor. This would mean injuries like Kostya's (or McClellan's in the above scenario) would be taken into account in the decision.

In either case, you'd have to award the purse.

Jones acted like a pussy in the Johnson fight and in the few moments I saw of the Tarver III fight, but, at least, he took his licking till the end. He didn't quit because of a broken nose (wtf, his trainer should have told him to go play tennis) or supposed "brain swelling".
