Anyone else surprised that Ward lost to Judah?

In retrospect, isn't it somewhat surprising that Ward wasn't able to wear Judah down and beat him?

I really think Judah's arrogance won him that fight. He pysched Ward out. Ward's coming on late, but he gave up a lot of early rounds, although I don't think all of them as Bernstein suggests.

It's on again tonight at 12a if you missed it. It's round 9 on Classic.

If Ward has just maintained a better pace, he could've won. Oh and his lefty approach he should've abandoned I think.

Still, if Ward had just applied more pressure, I think he would've found Judah's heart.

and not really lop-sided. the closest lop-sided fight in history is what they're calling it.

one thing i notice though, if allowed to, Judah will relax and win rounds with light punching and patience. As he moved on in his career, he's seemed to have lost that ability.

Although Ward played right into his hands in this way by laying back too much and allowing the creepers to escape from Judah's messed up pysche.

Ohh NO....Mickey Ward was a nice tough guy, but nothing special as a fighter.....He should've never won a minute against Judah....but Zabi is zabi...

I thought Ward won 115-113. But it was a close fight that could have gone either way.

Do you really have to remind us about Tito's performance against the elite opponents?

No surprise, Ward was limited and pretty damn slow.

I know Baldomir beat Zab. Baldomir is a likeable hard-working fighter and all, but I do think that Zab overlooked him.

I thought Zab would win by a mile on points, which he did.
Ward was a good and hard fighter, but wasn't in Zudah's class.
I think Mickey only won one round in that fight, but Zab said Ward was the only fighter at that point in his career to really hurt him to the body.

Tito did nothing for them except make himself a human punching bag. They were already big.

No. Ward was a bum. That and Zab was a better fighter then than he is now.

judah had a real trainer then. he actually boxed and threw combinations. along the way, he became a pure reflex fighter who throws one or two punches at a time.

ward also sucked. ward got better after becoming a test opponent for rising contenders.

Zab has always been an excellent bumbeater. :dunno: Only time he failed was the first fight with Spinks. :stir: :stir:

zab said ward hurt him to the body at one point. he still won a lop-sided decision.

Mickey, and other fighters like him, as much as they entertain notions of greatness, must inevitably lapse into a mental funk that comes with being a perennial contender. Before long they are there to be beaten, and forget about their own considerable if limited potential. They snap in and out of this funk. If you threw Mickey in with Zab three months after Mickey beat Gatti, I figure he'd have found Zabs heart alright.
