Kellerman waited like 4 seconds to say that Castillo was shot.

He also said Ricky was doing most of the holding. Now, he was lead along by that decrepit imbecile Lederman, but count the number of times Cortez warns in Spanish too. He was warning Castillo as much as he was Hatton.:nono:

And Hatton was averaging 55 punches per round. Not exactly "hook and hold"....you decrepit imbecile.:warning:

Manny was playing the "Castillo is shot" card too.

So he loses one fight by KO and wins the rematch by KO and he's shot?

Thats not how you get shot.

    You fucktards.

If anything he had a year off which kept him away from the wear and tear of the ring. That prolongs the career, if anything, so long as it is kept to 1 year and doesn't turn into 3 or 4, a la Leonard, Jeffries.

He had a relatively easy come back fight, his "poor" winning performance can be attributed to Ring rust and a shifty opponent...not wear and tear.

He was legitimately KO'd by a guy who did what Castillo does...just better.

Shit, Manny was saying that Kostya Tszyu was ruffled because Hatton wouldn't give him space. Why not apply the same argument to Castillo? Instead, we're told that Castillo, who never took an elongated extended beating in his life, is SHOT.

    Please.

Manny should know better- he complained when Tua cried off about a rib injury after his defeat to Lewis. He said it deducted from the sweetness of Lewis victory and that Tua should have kept his mouth shut.

Lederman and Kellerman have their agendas, but I thought Manny would have known better.

Lampley: "And Hatton Won't Get Much Credit For That Victory, Because Of How Castillo Looked"

No, Fucktard, its not because of how Castillo looked {in pain??:dunno: }...its because of what you said.:nono: :nono:

Then Manny rambles off about how the KO was good and how its unusual to see a Mexican crumple from a body shot.

    But Manny, Castillo WAS SHOT!!!

I guess Manny forgot the agenda momentarily:rolleyes:

Then Kellerman comes over with the smarmy "Well done on defending your lineal title"...fuck off Abe.

manny said from round 1 that castillo looked old. if kellerman wanted to push a typical HBO agenda, he would've given hatton credit and said castillo was still in his prime.

Fuck that. Manny will say whatever he thinks will extend his contract and/or put dollars in his pocket. Max sold out and took the HBO cool aid a long time ago. I can't remember what it was he said, but when I heard it, I was shocked because it was typical bullshit they feed to mainstreamers.

Hatton beat the shit out of Castillo, i don't know why HBO was trying to downlplay it. There was a little more holding than i'd like to see but it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

hatton's just no fun to watch. he's a hack. that's probably the best explanation as to why he can't get no love from the HBO crew.

yes. but i've been saying he's a hack long before he beat castillo. and it's why i didn't want castillo to fight him. hacks are tough to beat. especially with 10 oz gloves.

i dont think the glove size mattered. castillo was in w/ a bigger and stronger guy.

from the first round i didnt like how castillo's legs were reacting to hatton's punches. castillo may or may not be shot, but he is definitely done as an elite fighter especially at 140.

everytime Castillo would throw, Hatton would basically tackle him. he might not have tackled if the punches had stung a bit more.

still you're probably right. Castillo's style was wrong for Hatton.

I didn't listen to the English feed (HBO LATINO)

    "however"

I thought Hatton initiated the holding. I also thought Castillo's bodyshots were good shots. It's obvious that Hatton can't handle bodyshots.

With that said, he landed a beautiful shot. Castillo blocked a bunch of bodyshots with his elbows, but the KO shot was legit and a perfect shot.

Castillo turned and exposed himself and Hatton correctly set himself up to where he could punch around the elbow which previously blocked other shots.

It was a good one punch performance, but Ricky certainly held way too much.

I said the night of the fight that Hatton could have KO'd him sooner if he didn't hold so much.

i agree it was a perfect and legit shot. but it's a leap to say that he would've KO'd him sooner had he not held so much. how do we know Castillo would not have gotten him?

Hatton's defense basically consists of holding. If he doesn't hold, he gets hit. so to say he would've KO'd Castillo sooner had he not held ignores the fact that by not holding Hatton would've been vulnerable himself.

I went back and watched the shots that Castillo got warned about(in slow-mo) and they were on the belt line, not low. The shot that he got the point taken away for was not even close to being low. It was just Hattons reaction that got the point deduction.

hatton's style isn't so much holding, it's he always tries to bully his opponents by pushing them back looking for openings. it's for this reason why hatton would never be sucessful at welterweight because he won't have the strength advantages to get away with that tactic.

kellerman needs to do a better job in the future because his post-fight analysis was utter crap. you cannot go into fights saying this fight is even and when one guy gets crushed give dimwitted reasons (i.e shot, overrated, ect.). if castillo crushed hatton, phonetap has the impression kellermen would have been saying hatton was overrated. that's bullshit phonetap expects to read from fans on internet forums, not what he expects to hear from a well paid HBO sports commentators. kellerman better get his act together because you can pull any fool out of the audience to give that halfassed analysis...

Who cares? As if Castillo's previous two bouts weren't enough, it should have been apparent by the end of the first round...Castillo is SHOT, regardless of so called "biased commentary." Dude had no legs from the jump. His balance was horrible. He looked like he was on the verge of going down in the opening 20 seconds. Hatton pretty much did what any other top fighter would have done with that version of Castillo. No, I'm not saying KO him with one shot to the body, but he would have been embarrassed and destroyed in similar fashion (minus 100 clinches).

Thats if he wanted to push a HBO agenda. Instead, he pushed his OWN Agenda. Again.

Manny, I think, was trying to give Ricky more credit, and he dropped a couple of hints such as "Kostya Tszyu got no space from Ricky" in other words, Castillo was getting the KT treatment and thats why his ass was all over the joint.

Lederman...again pushed his own anti-Euro agenda. During Byrd-W.Klitschko II, he actually had to be told that his argument was NONSENSE. AsKlitschko battered Byrd towards the ropes, Harry interjected "Jim, I Gotta Tell You About Holding".....upon which, as Byrd slumped into the ropes and Klitschko hammered away, Lampley interjected with "Its nonsense".

    OWNED.

When you think about it (Hindsight IS 20-20 but...) if Castillo could barely squeeze past an undersized Casamayor...how was he going to ever beat a solid Tszyu-beating 140lber like Hatton?

Anyone who picked Castillo were living in cloud cuckoo land....:notallthere:

Listen pal this is about HBO and their bullshit. Not about Hatton and Castillo, per se. And if you think I am being unreasonable, all you have to do is talk to Jake. When a guy like Jake complains, something is wrong.

Tap...it is holding. When you punch then come straight and and grab another guys arm or push him down and grab him behind the neck, how can you not call that holding?

If Hatton pushed Castillo off, THEN punched him OR used his shoulders to push Castillo back then punched at him when Castillo rocked back...I'd agree with you.

Hatton didn't do much of either. he punched, grabbed Castillo and held until Cortez broke them apart. That's not bulling...that's holding.

Again, I didn't listen to the english broadcast and I thought we were in for a long, ugly fight until Hatton landed that bodyshot.

I'm also glad I'm not the only one who noticed those shots weren't low. Hatton simply couldn't handle them. Anytime a guys jumping after a bodyshot, that clearly means he can't handle them. The KO bodyshot makes it a moot point, but Cortez was wrong for taking the point away. he said prior to the match that Hatton's cup was a bit high. Castillo's punches were on the beltline. If Hatton's trunks were at his natural waistline, those are legit punches.

In fact, Castillo's bodyshot wasn't any different than the bodyshot Tszyu hurt Hatton with and Ricky faked as though it was a lowblow.

AGain, we are all entitled to our picks. I think the Forum had Hatton by a solid 10 picks, and thats usually a good indcation. Most folks had it right.

This isn't about Hatton, his performance etc. Its about HBO.

Lederman telling Lampley that "I gotta talk about holding" as one of the most savage hitters of the last 20 years flings Byrd around like a ragdoll....

Its like a guy bursting onto the set of a porno and screaming "Guys, I gotta talk about safe-sex"

    Wrong joint, fucko, wrong joint!!

Cortez has taken more points away from fighters for legitimate body shots then any referee in the history of boxing.

Fuck I hate Cortez. You can hump as much as you want and you can act your way to victory if you don't like being hit below the nipples.

your point is taken but phonetap stands by his position. it wasn't like hatton was grabbing castillo for no reason. hatton would throw a shot then try to physically push castillo back looking for angles to throw shots...castillo was trying to hold ground thus the clinching by BOTH men.

    Agreed 100%.

The maker of this thread has a point too. Kellerman and Lamplass just couldn't fucking wait to say "Castillo is shot...", "Hatton shouldn't get credit..." etc., etc., after they'd spent all before the fight hyping what an interesting and even matchup this was. Worse yet was how unequivocally they stated it, "Hatton WON'T get credit for this," like they were either reading the minds of millions of viewers watching this at home, or like they were trying to program their minds themselves. And still worse was the post-fight interview, when Mr. Max "This is an even fight" Kellerman says right to Hatton's face (and in front of Hatton's fans) that Castillo was shot and he shouldn't try to take credit from it. I was hoping Hatton's fans would shower the ring with debris. That's the kind of behavior I'd expect from a piece of slime like Jim Grey. It's totally unprofessional and has ZERO place on a professional broadcast. Just grow a fucking sack and admit that you were fucking wrong, asshole.

Exactly...it was like "Castillo is shot, now that the fight is over and Hatton has won. That is what we are telling you now. We couldn't tell you before the fight cos we cant tell shit from shinola"

It was pathetic weak ass subjectivity. There are 4 of them there, between Lederman, Manny, Lampley and that stooge Kellerman. I can't see Merchant or even Foreman being so lopsided. If any of them had any balls they would have stated it outright: shot fighters get beaten down subtly over the duration of a fight: think Tony Zale vs Marcel Cerdan. A point suddenly comes where the older more worn fighter suddenly has nothing left. They don't suddenly get blown out with one precise body shot after three and a half rounds.. Sure, Hatton was winning the fight, but Castillo was landing a few shots of his own.

Think of Tyson sitting on the ropes against Williams and McBride, with that forlorn lost worn out look on his face. That is SHOT. The pasting Lewis laid on him was necessary, as Mike WAS NOT shot going into that. But he was well and truly finished afterwards.

Think Gatti suddenly folding against Baldomir, in what had been a close fight. Thats shot. Thats finished. That sudden, forlorn, almost inevitable collapse in what has seemed thus far like a close fight, but which has that ineveitability about it. Keith Mullings beating Terry Norris is another good example.

Merchant has his favourites too. I don't deny it.:nono: And just cos he annoyed the shit out of that conceited little cunt Floyd doesn't mean he's the baddest man out there for calling fights either.

    Merchant is generally HONEST.

    Max has Agendas.

Of all of them, Foreman would give a guy like Hatton better respect than the rest. I think it has to do with the fact he boxed.

You can't sell a fight to people and then tell them afterwards "Uhhh....Don't Give Any Credit To So-And-So"

We, the Public, will decide who gets what.

Not HBO, and not the fighters themselves. We follow the Sport, HBO just televise it.
