    So ONLY list five..ONLY!!!

I don't want to see any wannabe historians, listing the 50 best fighters of all time in order to appear learned.

List the FIVE fighters YOU think are the most talented all round and most unbeatable when they were at their very bests. Not necessarily talking about "greatness".

As such...and in no particular order except Alphabetical...

    Muhammad Ali
    Roy Jones Jnr
    Floyd Mayweather Jnr
    Ray Robinson
    Pernell Whitaker

Is this going to end up being another "define best vs. greatest" debate?

I'm only listing guys I've seen a decent amount of footage in their prime (I've seen very little footage of Robinson @ 147 and it's grainy).

    Roberto Duran
    Muhammad Ali
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Pernell Whitaker
    Roy Jones Jr.

Maybe Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon get in there and I take a couple out. Michael Spinks, J.C. Chavez, and Floyd Mayweather are pretty damn good too. Tough choice. I suck at making lists. Henry Armstrong and others would probably be there if I've seen more footage of them in their prime. I'm still catching up on watching film of Eder Jofre.

if we don't consider accomplishments at all, then i'd definitely add Sal Sanchez to my list of Duran, Armstrong and Robinson. but as it stands, it's tough for me to think of anyone else who belongs on the same list as thos three guys.

even Ali, with all he did, doesn't compare to these guys.

these three are in a class of their own: Duran, Armstrong and Robinson.

Duran is overrated by many. He was a really good weight cutter, I'll give him that. Multi-time quitter. Chin failed him often. Outboxed by bums in the middle of his career. Blown away by Hearns...and on and on.

Tunney was an asskicker. Didn't he beat Greb (everyone's favorite never seen fighter) multiple times. He whipped Dempsey like a bitch. And he fought in a style far ahead of his time.

"Chin failed him often?" Yeah. Once.

Blown away by Hearns? Yeah, at 154, during his third career.

I don't know about Tunney. When I see the guy fight, I'm thinking: "Jirov could beat this guy."

I was a Sanchez fan while he was fighting, but I think he gets the "died young" extra credit these days. He was quite the fighter, but he wasn't even clearly the best fighter in his weight class while he was champion. Co-champ Eusbio Pedroza was as highly regarded as Sanchez (at least by those who followed the sport closely) and a fight between the two was considered a pretty even match. And Sanchez never seemed all that eager to face Pedroza in the ring. There's no doubt he was one of the best fighters of his time, but I don't know that I see him among the very best ever.

Good list, but a more accurate one would look like this...
    1. 1988 Tyson
    2. 1987 Tyson
    3. 1986 Tyson
    4. 1989 Tyson
