Just curious what everyone considers was the most recent "good" fight on TV, whether it was PPV, ESPN, HBO or Showtime (do they still show fights?). I noticed Showtime has pretty much sucked this year so far. And HBO is once again in the lead. So what was the last good fight you watched?
i didn't think Cotto/Judah was competitive at all. therefore, it was not a good fight. it wasn't boring or tedious, but to call it good is in my mind a stretch. i think i might agree with Marquez/Vazquez. i have to think about it. the reason i started the thread was because it seems like it's been a while. and if indeed it was Marquez/Vazquez, then in fact it has been.
The "last" good one I've seen on American television was Cotto-Judah. Prior ones would have been Sosa-Viloria, Marquez-Barrera and Marquez-Vasquez.
Cotto was VISIBLY Hurt on @ Least 3 SEPERATE Occassions,DOUB...After the 5th,it was Pretty Much All Cotto,but @ the Same Time,he was Hurt AGAIN by Zab N like the 7th Round... Zab STILL had a "Punchers Chance" up til the 8th Round...How is that NOT a "Competitive" Fight???:dunno: ... Cotto was Wobbled Numerous Times,CUT BADLY Under his Lip,there was 2 VICIOUS Low Blows,Zab was Bleeding,Swollen,Staggered Badly 1nce & Officically Dropped TWICE,all Prior to Being STOPPED... Haven't U Referred to DeLa-Tito as an "Underrated" Fight???:dunno: Cotto-Zab is INFINITELY More RE-Watchable than DeLa-Tito... REED
J.M. Marquez-Barrera was a pretty good fight. So were Soto-B. Pacquiao, Pavlik-Miranda, and Bautista-Medina. At least I enjoyed them.
I do agree that the fight might reaction might have been a little inflated, probably due to how electric the crowd was...same thing happened in the aftermatch of Trinidad-Mayorga. However, it was still one of the better fights of the year - in what has been a very disappointing year, domestically, in terms of FOTY contenders.
On TV: Sylvester vs. Asikainen II European Middleweight Title last weekend. Very good fight. On delay: I finally saw Sidorenko/Cordoba II, and this time the decision was okay, although I thought Sidorenko edged it by 2 points, the fight was hard to score especially the last three rounds.
Cotto/Judah and Pavlik/Miranda are the best two for me. Marquez/Vasquez is definitely up there. Something tells me Wlad/Brewster 2 will be a good one as well.
Good very close fight. Too close for Brähmer, who has many defensive flaws. He´s basically a more talented version of Thomas Ulrich. Those years in prison probably killed his development and he´ll never catch up after all the promise he showed as an amateur. Besides a huge bomb in the first round Larsen handled Velazco much easier than Brähmer or Sturm.
I had Judah winning at least 3 rounds (probably 4) by the time they stopped it, therefore it was already as competitive as Bowe-Holyfield 1, and no one would say that wasn't a good fight.
Cotto-Judah was the last good one... Make no mistake about it, I was on the edge of my seat for the first few rounds because Judah rattled Cotto with those nasty uppercuts.. It was competitive until the relentless pressure from Cotto beat the will to fight out of Zab..
i'm gonna check it out again. maybe i was fixated on Judah's slow but steady mental collapse and as a result missed the action.
Ditto, I thought it was a pretty good fight as well. Brahmer looked in SERIOUS trouble in round 5. While he has a bit of talent he lacks all of the intangibles to be anything special.
Just curious, what was the fourth round you could have given to Judah ? The only 3 rounds I could possibly see him winning were the 1st, 3rd, and 7th, and two of those could go either way. But yeah, this was the last "good" fight I've seen too. It's my second personal favorite this year, but I don't think it was nearly competitive enough to be considered "Fight of the Year" like some are saying. Every round Cotto won, he won it big and kicked the shit out of Judah. Every round Judah won was mainly due to one big sequence where he stunned Cotto. Judah never really had one round where he was getting the better of the two for the full 3 minutes. I think the electricity of the crowd, and the perception of Cotto not being the most durable fighter, definitely added to the drama of the fight. Though rewatching the fight without the suspense, I honestly don't think Cotto was in anymore trouble than Tszyu was in the 1st or Floyd in the 4th when they fought Zab. He was clearly stunned by a few of those Judah left hands...but I think knowing he had been hurt by smaller punchers than Judah, made things seem a bit more serious than they actually were.
