Name a fighters best performance which goes against the grain of which is generally considered there best performance. I.E. Tyson's best performance is generally considered the Spinks fight, but I believe Mike was at his best vs Biggs. That was overall the best performance of Mike's career IMO. Also, Sweet Pea's best performance is usually considered to be the Chavez, or Haugen fight, but I think his best and most complete performance was against Pineda. List some others.
This is 1 of those Topics where U have to Weigh "Impressiveness" w/the Opposition or IMPORTANCE of the Fight... Sweet Pea's Beaten BETTER Guys N MORE "Important" Fights, but it's VERY Tough to SURPASS his Bout w/Louie Lomeli for IMPRESSIVENESS... Or Roy vs Thomas Tate (Roy's NEVER Thrown MORE Punches than he Did N Round 1 vs Tate),Percy Harris or Antoine Byrd...UTTERLY Impressive Performances... As for Tyson,REED likes his Bouts w/Frazier,Holmes & Pinklon Thomas,More than Most of his Others...Not to Mention his "Bum" Fights vs. Donnie Long,Reggie Gross or John David Jackson... REED
Vitali vs Herbie Hide - Efficient and ruthless (In a very e.european way). Tito vs Sweet Pea - I like his control and movement the whole fight. Mosley vs Antonio Diaz - True clinic to challenge then p4p no.1 Jones. Corrales - Casamayor II - More conclusive than scorecards. JMM - Gainer - Apart from ending. Smooth and agressive. The way JMM likes to do it...
Of all of Tyson's wins, I've always thought the Berbick KO was the most impressive. Berbick wasn't a great fighter, but he was tough and awkward and held his own against many of the best fighters of the Holmes era. Tyson walked right thru him as if he were one of the "bum" opponents you mentioned. And who could forget poor Berbick getting knocked down 3 times with one punch??
I could agree with this. Tyson went through a fairly capable fighter like a hot knife through butter. Tyson wasn't going to be denied that night. But Tyson had so many impressive performances between 1986-1988 that it's difficult to choose. Personally, I pick the Tony Tubbs fight. A prime Riddick Bowe...YEARS later, struggled to beat an older Tubbs and some actually thought that TNT won that fight. Tyson dismissed him without breaking a sweat. Tyson was also rather impressive in the Biggs and Holmes fights. I was never that impressed with the Spinks fight, personally, as IMO..Spinks came to lay down.
Michael Jack Johnson? :dunno: I'm not really sure which is Tyson's best performance. Trevor Berbick, Tyrell Biggs, Michael Spinks? And although it wasn't spectacular, I thought his win over Tony Tucker was impressive since he actually for once made some little adjustments and ended up outjabbing a 6'5 guy with a long reach and nice jab of his own.
I completely agree. All everyone could talk about was how boring this fight was and how JMM did nothing etc etc.. when in fact it was the complete opposite.. a great performance in which JMM proved his physical AND mental dominance in the division.. effectively stopping Gainer with only a few clean shots and the threat of many more to come.
Ooooops!!.. Yeah, that's It:: ... Although Mike would've Beaten John David Jackson IMPRESSIVELY as Well,Don't U Think???... REED::
Pacquiao- Sasakul: Pac dominated the #2 guy in the division at the time to take his title by precision power punching, and defensive movement. I'd be willing to be less than 10% of the board has even seen the fight.
REED's Got It... REED's Got some Lower Weight Manny Pac on DVD...REED Even Has his Bodypunch KO LOSS!!! REED:eeeek:
so is this thread about who looked the best against soft competition? ODH crushed his softies. he just gets no credit for it because he faced so many tough opponents. consider how easily he beat the hell out of Derrell Coley, Kamau, Leija and Carpentier. How about Mosley against Stone, Diaz and Shannon Taylor? That was an impressive run (milking HBO's contract against cheap ass competition - what did HBO expect - here's a contract, share it with your opponent. Oh, and make sure it's a "good" opponent, but it's up to you how much you pay him).
