If we could have seen him in there with someone who had more height than Tua and who threw with both hands....like Holyfield, for example. Holy would go hammer and tong...plus, Ike had decent power, but it wasn't Shavers/Tyson/Liston/Foreman/Tua-type power. Ike was missing the most important tool of all...his mind.

He was a work in progress. Ah shit Buddy!!! you got me doing it and I said I wasn't.... I think Ike was gifted with Carlos Monzone type range and skills and I actually think his power would have improved as he picked his shots more as he developed more experience.

Ike also had the intangables... ring sense, good distancing skills and an ability to read his opponent's mind (not literally).

What about Ike's incredible chin and huge balls? Holyfield couldn't have scared him like he scared Tyson. Ike would have taken EVERYTING that Holyfield would have thrown at him. If he took everyting Tua got, he would have definitely taken everything Holy got. Do you know what I think? Ike would have crushed Holyfield.

Oh please! First look at Holyfield's competition then look at Ike's. I don't see any Tyson, Bowe, Foreman, Lewis, Moorer, Mercer, etc on Ike's resume. He was largely unproven and he barely got through Tua in a fight which many thought Tua won.
You can't use the tua example as a way to claim Ike would have crushed Holyfield. Nobody ever crushed a young Holyfield.
And just because he managed to take Tua's shots doesn't mean he'd walk through everybody's shots. Boxing is a lot more complicated than that. He closed Tua's punching range for the most part by staying on Tua's chest. It'd be a lot different than taking a full fledged right cross from Lewis or a power left hook from Tyson because they set up their punches a lot different than Tua. And I don't believe Ike could've taken everything Holyfield could throw. Nobody can. Nobody's ever walked through Holyfield's bombs. Not even Ray Mercer nor the iron chinned Tyson. Hell it took Ike like 9 rounds to stop a C class dead Everton Martin.

We will never know, but IMO Ike would have won a version of the title had he stayed sane.
I have read where he may have suffered brain damage during the Tua war, and was a loose cannon after that brutal battle and attempted to kill his girlfriend's child by running his car into a bridge with the child in the car.
No excuse for beating and raping a woman, regardless of whether she is a whore or not.
    Ike got what he deserved.

Ike had the work rate to match Holy, which is rare for heavy when Holy was a swarmer. And Ike had the size and power of a true heavy when Holy was still a cruiser outworking the big boys like Bowe. I think he takes Holy but it would not have been a picnic.

That would have been a great fight. First off, if Lewis came into the ring with that glazed look he had against Mercer, MCcall and Rahman he loses quick.

I don't think Ike could counter Lewis because of LL's size and reach. Ike could also not KO Lewis because Lewis had a damn good chin. But Lewis could not KO Ike... a man who took Tua's best uppercut and did not skip a beat.

I couldn't call that one. :dunno:

Hanzy sauce for the Mali Kofta is good for the Tiki Masala (sauce for the goose is good for the gander)... Holy had bad days in the ring and he lost to Bowe and Moore. So you can't take a bad Ike day and say he couldn't do something in the ring.

You can't say that Ike is unproven either he did Bird and Tua and some people think Tua had one of the harder punches in the division.

Ike was very good, but overrated. Overrated when comparing him to greats. I question if he could have beaten Lummox, much as I hated Lummox, I'd have favored him over Ike. And I certainly wouldnt pick Ike over a prime Holy, or a young Tyson or Bowe. I find it hilarious cause I've heard simps in the past say he woulda beaten a prime Tyson. He couldnt even fuckin beat Tua, yet he'd beat a prime Tyson. Go figure. Having said that however, if a PRIME Ike was around in the current division, theres no doubt he'd rule. He'd waste Wlad, thats for sure.

That's bullcrap dsimon. Ike was blasting Tua with everything he had and Tua kept coming forward. 3 shots from Lewis and Tua quit in the 2nd round. I just don't think you can use anybody's performance as a real gauge in how a mythical matchup would play out. Taking a shot from 5'9 Tua isn't the same as taking a shot from a 6'5 Lewis. The punches not only come from different angles, they're executed differently. One with more snap and leverage than the other, and Ike would've been blinded by the jab before the right cross moves in with full force on the tip of that chin ala Rahman II.

I believe an in-shape focused Lewis takes care of Ike by KO. I ain't sold on Ike's chin just because he survived Tua. The logic won't apply since Tua doesn't hit like Lewis does. Ask yourself, shouldn't Tyson have been able to take care of Danny Williams if he hits as hard as he does in the 4 rounds they fought? Whereas the lighter hitting Vitali had Danny reeling all over the ring from the first minute onward.
I just don't see the logic in the Tua/Lewis power comparisons because they're such different fighters who throw different punches.

but you gotta compare fighters in their prime. Like you said in shape and in their prime.

You mentioned Tyson agasint Danny williams but Tyson was shot already. wrong example.

I think you have to favor Lewis over Ike obviously. but if Rahman and McCall were able to flatten Lewis I know Ike had the tools. He was as strong, as big and I think he had better skills. he just didn't stuck around long enough to have a long carreer.

He destroyed Byrd who Lewis and Manny Steward avoided for "Style" reasons.

my point is you can't just pretend Ike brought nothing to the table and had no shot at Lewis. I think he did based on his skills and on Lewis' faults.

I never saw Ike fight a bigger man so I don't know what he had to offer. Tua's a tiny man, stong and powerful but with the arm length of a 5'6" man.
    Bit different than a Lewis.
I'm not right or wrong, just trying to visualize a bit. :dunno: Play the fight out in my mind and see how both fighters respectively approach the fight.

People have such short memories regarding Tua: At one time he was the biggest threat in the division, bar none. Ike fought a prime Tua, one that still threw punches.

Who knows when Tua hit his downward spiral? Was it before or after Lewis? Who knows? But you are basing your analysis on Tua and to me that is conjecture. All we know about Tua is that at one time he was really menancing and Either because of styles, Tua's heart, or some other factor Lewis mastered him easily. That has no bearing on an Ike fight IMO.

Besides Hanzy I didn't say Ike takes Lewis just that it is impossible to call IMO.

Ike gets romanticize too much, wow, in that video he brutalizes Calvin Jones. Who the fuck is Calvin Jones???

Ok, so Ike KOs Chris Byrd, nice win from him.

All that shit about Ike this, Ike that, , blah, blah, blah, don't mean shit, Lennox Lewis, Wlad Kltischko, any of those, big, tall, athletic, boxer-punchers, would have feasted on Ike.

Ike Ibeabuchi was a poorman's Mike Tyson.

Byrd's a good fighter. He beat your boy remember? A boxer, like Byrd, was Tua's worse nightmare.

Tua had problems for a number of reasons. I mean his reach is a real issue and he started to decline, for whatever reason... but there was a time when he was quite formidable.

It is ridiculous that people have such short memories. Yeah today and for the last 3rd of his career Tua sucked, so did Tyson, but when he was on he was a threat to anybody in the ring.

That is pure speculation. Ike was much more well rounded than Tyson and had a great work rate. He also had legitimate heavy weight size much as Sam Peter does.

People forget that in the very beginning of the Vlad Klitschko renaissance, an out of shape Peter gave him a good fight. Ike was better than Peter so I don't see Vlad dominating him.

It took Ike that long to TKO a total BUM ?? And by shoulder injury at that ?? Wlad would have taken that trash out in under a round.

Ike is ridiculously overrated... he was a brawler with a good chin and mediocre power. He MAY have won a title... but then again he DID get OUTBOXED by David Tua.

He was a good fighter! I even said he might have won a title. The thing is.. everyone likes to praise him as the second coming, mainly because he wasn't around for long enough to see his 0 go. The guy fought life and death with David Tua, Tua showed superior boxing skills, while Ike's high workrate got the decision by taking most of the early rounds. It wasn't really a lucky decision, but the fact is that Tua made him look like just a brawler without alot of skill.

He caught Byrd really good with his pressure and power punching.. but other than that?? Did he stand a chance with Lewis ?? I doubt it. Either Klit would probably beat him... Rahman.. Ruiz... Peter ?? I'd say they are a toss up.

The best thing that happened for Ike Ibeabuchi's career was him being sent to prison for life.

Do you have any memory of how Tua was regarded pre Lewis? When Lewis fought Tua most people thought the two best guys were fighting for the title and a lot of people thought Tua would win.

Ruiz, who you claim could hang with Ike got decimated by Tua... after Tua was in his tailspin, if memory serves correct.

There are a lot of people on this thread including you who should watch some of Tua's early fights. he was a monster. Lewis destroyed Tua and that is why everybody says "big deal" that ike beat him.

I respect everybody's opinion of Ike but why is everybody underestimating Tua because Lewis destroyed him?:dunno:

Alot of fighters "change" once they feel a few rights from Lennox Lewis, but on his way down, Ike would have just smiled and shook it off.
