I was about to tell them the one about Brian O'Brien and Scott Byrne outside the school gates in 1996. I watched that one from the Sanctity of the School Bus....but Byrne never showed. Slinked out the back gates. There were 300 people waiting on it. O'Brien was a dumb red headed IRA bastard, but he would have bashed Byrnes bookish brains out.

The best one I DID SEE was also watched from the School Bus....Mick somebody vs somebody Farrell. Farrell kicked his ass....headbutts ended it,with Mick bloodied and hanging on. Outstanding 30 second brawl.

Pacquiao - Morales III was really good. The crowd was very hyped on both sides. No riots to speak of.

If Pacquiao - Barrera II is in Vegas, I'll be buying two $500 seats.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor 1.
Wonderful fight, bad and incorrect ending by one of my favorite referees.
Richard Steele was the best referee I ever saw at controlling the action, but the worst I saw at judgement making in several key big fights.

    Pac vs Morales 3
    Freitas vs German guy?

The Pac fight was just a great event. Just amazing energy all around. The crowd would go nuts after every punch thrown. It's unfortunate that the fight ended so quickly (I flew all the way from CT to watch this fight) but it was all worth it. Ran into the guys from Entourage at the fight too!

A few weeks later the friend I went to Vegas with gives me a call and tells me that we could very well have met Pacquiao - apparently his family is very close with the priest who did the sermon for Pacquiao's mass/blessing thing prior to the fight.

The Freitas fight was a very blah experience. Shit fight, although Ouma was in a pretty good scrap on the undercard.

Next fight will probably be the Pac/Barrera fight, but if Chad Dawson fights locally again I'll probably try to catch it. On a related note, I work at the state capitol in Hartford and got to meet Tarver prior to his last fight. Caught me off guard because I definitely did not expect to see him at work. Despite the fact that I absolutely hate him as a fighter, he was actually a pretty nice guy in person.

The best fight I've been to was Ibeabuchi-Tua.

The best venue for a fight I've been to was Mayweather-Chavez...Bill Graham Civic in San Francisco.

Do you live in San Francisco? I wish I had been able to go to that fight myself because Pacman was on the undercard, but I was a poor college student in the East Bay during that time.

I live in the East Bay (though I work in the city).

Fortunately, you didn't miss too much with the Pac fight...just a few ugly rounds, a ton of fouling and an inconclusive ending.

Still, it was a great night for boxing...there was such a great atmosphere inside the Civic...and it happened while the Bay Area was in the midst of an absolute downpour, which seemed to add to the ambience.

Yeah I ended up watching it in my apartment, Agapito (may he RIP) was really intent on fighting as dirty as possible.

Mayweather-Jesus Chavez though was exciting to watch. I was rooting for Chavez and he seemed to give Floyd a lot of problems with his pressure.

    Vinny Pazienza - Nelson Bolanos
    Greg Haugen - Darren Brennen
    Gabriel Ruelas - Eduardo Jacques
Mickey Ward - Louis Veader II

...and a bunch of other local fight cards over the years.

I was friends with 1980 Olympic Trials Heavyweight runner-up Chris McDonald and one of NBC's "Tomorrow's Champions" when we worked in Night Club Security after his pro career ended in the 1980's. (he later made a comeback in the 90's but didnt get anywhere) BTW...Chris was robbed against James Broad in the finals.

Hagler - Scypion was the biggest event I have been to live...but Paz-Haguen I & Paz - Frazier were the most fun as I was one of the thousands of screaming Pazmaniacs in those fights.

I have been to many fights in my life. Mostly local shows at the Casino's. But I have made it to Nevada a few times as well. My dad was a huge fight fan and would take me to several fights a year.

The two biggest fights I have ever been to was Ray Mancini/Bobby Chacon in Reno NV. Great fight even though it only lasted 3 rounds. Two guys trading like the warriors that they were. Ray was just better. The second but best IMO was Marvin Hagler/John Mugabi 1986 at Caesar's Palace. Mugabi was my favorite fighter as a kid, it broke my heart to watch him just be dominated by Marvin, but the night was great and remains a great memory for me today.

My son is already boxing, and becoming to love the local shows himself. I am thinking of taking him to go see a big show in Vegas soon. He loves Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao.
