From Fightnews: "I give respect to Paulie Malignaggi and congratulate him on the win, but I wasn't allowed to fight my fight that night," claimed Ndou. "If that referee does all of Malignaggi's fights, he'll never lose," said Ndou. "From the word go he was warning me for things on the inside that I wasn't doing. I have never been so frustrated in my career. I wasn't allowed to fight on the inside. This is not ballet. If all fights are refereed like this, no Mexican boxer would ever win a match. Ricky Hatton would never have stopped Jose Luis Castillo!" He's right. The referee was criminal that night. Total bull-shit. Basically, the fight was refereed such that anytime Paulie found himself in an unfavorable position, all he had to do was hold, and the fight would immediately be stopped, and restarted in the middle of the ring, where Paulie wanted to be. A referee must stop holding from taking place. However, he's making matters even worse if he does so simply by stopping and restarting the action. The proper way to deal with holding is to issue warnings and then deduct points.
I agree and disagree. The ref should have warned Paulie for holding, true. But for the most part Paulie won this fight by beating N'Dou to the punch and N'Dou lost the fight by not cutting off the ring. He didn't look like the veteran in there at all. :nono:
it wasn't even about Paulie's holding. it was about the fact that everytime he held, the referee stopped the action and restarted. it doesn't matter if N'dou cut off the ring or not. if Paulie even curled his arm around N'dou, the ref stopped the action and broke the fighters. do you realize the advantage that creates for a fighter with Paulie's style? it means that the fight is constantly following the same pattern of N'dou moving in, and Paulie getting off. and then the action is stopped and restarted. how the hell is N'dou supposed to accomplish anything? he's not. that's the point. of course Paulie was getting off first. he's the younger and faster fighter with the better legs. N'dou's game was to get inside and bang. But everytime he got there, the ref stopped the action.
N'dou just couldnt handle the speed, if Paulie had a punch he would have gotten the KO, I was impressed with Paulie in this fight, No point in a rematch for me, N'dou looked shot over night..
imagine how the fight would've turned out if N'dou had been allowed to get inside, instead of having the action stopped and restarted everytime he got there.
ok. but i encourage you to watch the fight again and pay attention to the ref this time, and his protocol for restarting the action. once you key in on what he's doing, i think you'll see what i mean. basically, the referee is what allowed paulie to look so impressive. he simply wouldn't allow N'dou to get close to Paulie. the knock-down was nothing. it was a flash knock-down - N'dou wasn't hurt in the slightest by the punch - only surprised by it.
I know what you are talking about, the ref would redirect them. I remember thinking it was similar to the way Nady ref'd the fight between Roy and Ruiz. My problem with N'Dou in this fight is he fought almost amatuerish. He needed to force the fight inside. You make the point of Paulie holding as soon as he got close, fuck that. N'Dou should have been a monster and bullied his ass. Go for broke, balls out. You know Paulie doesn't have one punch power so what the fuck was the problem. He fought very similar to DLH in the the Floyd fight. Stupid and reserved.:nono:
I missed this fight but it sounds like Ruiz complaining about how the fight was refereed against Roy Jones
If someone is determined to throw punches inside , the ref will not stop it. Also if they are that determined , their oponent will also not be able to stop them from throwing punches by trying to hold. Why didn't N'dou just start throwing combinations when Paulie tried to tie him up ? If he needed time to hold for a few seconds before attempting to throw , thats on him. Why didn't he start throwing imediately? Pauilie wouldn't have been able to grab his arms if he was in the middle of throwing a combination.
Sounds like sour grapes to me is he gonna blame the ref for getting planted on his ass also:notallthere: ...no rematch it wasn't that clos of a fight.
Exactly. The fight wasn't even close. Had it been real close I could see a rematch being fair but fuck that Paulie won the fight clear.
my thoughts exactly. Paulie will be looking for bigger money and N'Dou just can't make the grade in that department. I think a fight with Witter would be good for him. Its very winnable and when/if he beats Junior, he can set up a bigger payday with Hatton.
Oh come on. I completely share your hate of Holdman Hatton, who as I've said has become a novelty, much like a little bobblehead on the dash in a stinky taxicab. In fact, Paulie "thanks Miguel Cotto for cracking my skull" Malignaggi annoys me as well. But N'dou loses this fight even if his mom is ref.
dsimon writes: Your exxagerating but yes the ref sucked. N'ado could not deal with Paulie's speed was the bottom line.
