That was a lot of nonsense by someone that evidently is anti-boxing. That was a bit of fightnews mixed in with maxboxing, two know nothing sites that feature know nothing writers like this character. The "writer" (and I use the term loosely) harkens back to the days of "Joe Louis" when he runs down the Brown bomber in a thread here on fightbeat. Complete crap.
thanks man, I actually cracked myself up with a few of those lines...including sadly the last one:doh:
I agree People like him should not be allowed to mention old time fighters in their articles considering the constant bashing and put downs Jaws insults these great fighters with.
its called common sense dude. Ull never hear me say Joe wasn't great, nor will I say he wasn't an american icon. But Klitschko TKO 3 Louis in a fucking brutal fashion
Looking at imminent unification on foreign soil I'm hoping one of the Americans steps up and into the picture
the sad thing, there really isn't anyone on the horizon. I mean I still think James Toney can compete with select guys, but Brock, Guinn, Mesi all fizzled to some degree
To add to the misery whoever wins between Sultan and Ruslan will have an "elevated" status and will probably get a "Super Champion" title leaving a guy like Tony Thompson who I'm picking to defeat Krasniqi little to no chance of even being in the picture at all
it's funny that jaws brings up mccall because mccall recently fought his way back to title contention. i wouldnt be shocked if he beats either ibragimov or changaev. forget witherspoon, tony tubbs would've cleaned house. ::
No question.. This isn't some pound for pound mythical match-up. This is a 6'6" 245 pound monster with a stiff jab and a devastating right hand.. Joe Louis wouldn't have a tool in the world to help his now smallish 205-210 lb frame stand up against Wladimir. This really isn't a slam against Joe Louis. It's simple evolution of athletes. They run faster, jump higher, lift more and are physically bigger. Joe Louis was a great fighter, perhaps the greatest who ever lived, but he would be at an insurmountable physical disadvantage. It doesn't make Joe Greene any less great to say he wouldn't get near an NFL quarterback if he were playing against today's offensive linemen. By the way, nice read Jaws..
changaev :: Theres the sleeper known as Chambers, and theres Thompson and McCall, I truly hope we never see Ruiz in contention again but he's got the stink style to do just that I'm thinkin if Thompson thrashes Krasniqi he'll be taken serious, time is not on his or McCalls side
Thompson will get into the picture after Krasniqi, I'm guessing. He's the best American heavyweight, imo, and he's a handful for anyone. But he's got the Rodney Jones style and like Rodney Jones, he's not the kind of fighter you voluntarily fight.
Ah, the evolution of the athlete (In other words Steroids), is that what would allow a basketball superstar of today like Carmelo Anthony to totally destroy yesterday's superstar Michael Jordan? My guess is the spin you guys will put on this is that evolution has stopped now that you're born? ::
P.S. Anything written by Jaws concerning any old time fighter is the equivalent of listening to a Klan rally about racial EQUALITY!
:: The hilarious thing is, you never would have said this in 2004 after Wladimir was bounced by Sanders and Brewster. Our perception always changes when a fighter comes off a few good wins. As the saying goes "You're only as good as your last fight."
Yes , and if a fat steroid James Toney (who is a naturally smaller person then Louis) could win a belt at heavy , so could Joe Louis. If an aged 210lb Evander Holyfield could basically draw (rematch fight) with Lennox Lewis (who is considered by allot to be better then both Klit brothers), fighters of the same size such as Joe Louis can also have a chance. Fighters like Ruiz who held a belt for YEARS and was beat by two former middle weights. He could be beaten by the likes of Joe Louis and fighters like Jersey Joe Walcott. How about Chris Byrd ? He was small as hell at like 210 and could have afforded to lose 10 or 12 pounds. He held a belt for quite awhile. I would pick Jersey Joe to outbox him to a UD ... This is all fuckin nonsense about this eveloution crap just because there are a few big guys with a bit of skill that happen to be around at the moment.
Exactly. Darwin would be proud how incredibly fast we've evolved as a race. :: Sadly our chins haven't evolved to superhuman status as evidenced by Vlad getting bounced repeatedly off the canvas by Brewster, Peters and Sanders. If Evander Holyfields smallish frame could compete at Heavyweight for so long I don't see what the problem would be with Louis. Shit, put him on a diet of steroids and he'd be up to 240 lbs. to.
That's what I think. Joe Louis would probably be fighting at the 225 or more range, and he'd be a bigger, stronger man today and probably just as deadly. Using the same supplements and training methods as the current competitors.
dsimon Writes: This argument is as perrenial as the seasons here on Fightbeat. Jaws is often absurd about this subject as are a few others. But the same points are made time and time again. It is important for other posters IMO to challenge Jaws on this issue because some of us guys who have painstakingly used logic to show the absurdity of Jaws position and been here a while get burned out. ld: I think I am going to write a piece for Cupey detailing the point of view of those opposed to Jaw's view.
