    Calzaghe-Kessler is on!

    By Karl Freitag
It's set. The super middleweight clash everyone has been waiting for is on November 3. WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe will face WBC/WBA super middleweight king Mikkel Kessler at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

If they get +70000 into the stadium it will be a bigger fight for boxing than DLH vs. PBF.

So it will be in March of next year. Calzaghe will get injured at least once in the lead-up.

Look at the bright side, he hasn´t scheduled a voluntary defense against Evans Ashira yet.

Dude, just APPLAUD the Fact that they're (HOPEFULLY) Fighting,FINALLY...Why the Need to Compare it to DeLa-Floyd???:dunno: ...

& Let's NOT Pretend that those 70,000 will Generate ANYWHERE NEAR the Dollars that DeLa-Floyd Did:nono: ...

The Prices for those Overseas Tickets DON'T Even Compare to Market Value VEGAS Tickets...& U KNOW This...

    Calzaghe-Kessler is a Big Fight on it's Own Merits...Leave it @ That...

It´s more significant, because this a fight for fight fans, not some exclusive 15000 business seats Vegas bullshit. What it generates is not the most important aspect. 70000 real boxing fans watching a fight for the undisputed championship of a weight class between two undefeated fighters in their primes is bigger than Pretty Boy fighting a washed-up DLH for a paperbelt.
Might even end up on regular Showtime, and not as a $55 PPV. .

How EXACTLY is it a "More Significant" Fight???:dunno: ...

"The BEST Fighter in the World Lb 4 Lb" Against "The Most IMPORTANT Fighter of his Generation" is EXTREMELY Significant...

Was Hagler-Leonard "Insignificant",Cause that was a SIMILAR Scenario to Floyd-DeLa...Hagler was Ranked # 1 Lb 4 Lb & Leonard was EASILY the Biggest "Name" N Boxing...Was THAT Fight Insignificant???:dunno:

    Again,U're GROSSLY OVERRATING those 70,000,N a PATHETIC Display of Euro BIAS:rolleyes: ...

4 the Prices that will B Charged for Kessler-Calzaghe,U Could Fill TWO ROSE BOWLS Full of "Real Fans" for a DeLa-Floyd Fight...That would B about 200,000 "Real Fans"...

Again,THE ONLY REASON 70,000 will Attend is BECAUSE of the Price of the Ticket...That's THE ONLY Reason Calzaghe Generated 35,000 for Manfredo...

    U Euro Cats & Promoters THINK U're SLICK,but U're NOT...The LIVE GATE is what's PERTINENT,NOT The # of Asses N the Seats...

On ANY Continent,No Matter WHAT the Price of the Tickets,DeLa vs Floyd is a BIGGER Fight...PERIOD...

Your "Little Brother" Complex is RIDICULOUS,Dog...

Mayweather's crap. He's boring as sh*t. No sane individual would ever pay $70 to see that guy fight, let alone $5,000 for front row seats. What do you get? A guy who hits and runs. Put his ass in the ring with Winky Wright and let's see how good he is. Oh wait, I forgot Floyd didn't want none after Winky accepted his pussy challenge.

I agree it will be a bigger fight for boxing overseas than Floyd over Oscar.
But in the US, those are two names really fight fans only know, not the general sports guy.
It won't sell good on PPV in the US at all, so it is going to have to be on Showtime, IMO.
I was leaning towards Calzaghe initially, but after really studying Kessler, I think it's a toss up now.
In terms of style and movement, Kessler is reminiscent of Ezzard Charles, and I don't think Calzaghe's southpaw stance will present that much of a problem to him as he fights off both sides equally well.
It wouldn't surprise me to see either guy win, or a draw even.

Um no. If he wins that's 2 quality win in his career. Many other fighters have more than two quality wins. Calzaghe would have to fight a lot more top guys to be #1 p4p.

dollars talk. what do you think the live gate was for mayweather vs that part time boxer if you factor in scalped price tickets. closed circuit seats were going for TRIPLE and even QUADRUPLE face value. tickets to the fight were going for 5 and 10 times face. the gate alone mustve generated 50 mill in revenue total

I have been a huge critic of Joe's. If this fight goes through and he pulls off a win, he is without a doubt top 3 p4p in the world.

With that said, I predict Joe tastes his first defeat. Kessler KO 8.

It broke the record with a live gate of $19 mil (and PPV $ as well with $120 mil).

That says something about DLH, but not the state of boxing. Mayweather couldn´t draw shit against Sharmba Mitchell. At least RJJ sold out his glorified sparring sessions. Even if Mayweather paid people to watch him, he couldn´t draw 20000 like Calzaghe, Kessler, Hatton or Cotto.

In a "competition" sense, I think Calzaghe-Kessler is a more important fight because you have two undefeated (and basically unified - as Calzaghe beat Lacy in a unfication) champions both at/near the prime of their careers (Calzaghe probably past his, but still near that level) in one of the best divisions in the sport.

It's one of the most heavily anticipated fights in the sport from a competitive standpoint, and the winner should be unanimously considered the best super middleweight in the world.

It's precisely what the competition of the sport should be about...deciding who the best fighters are inside the ring.

Mayeather-DLH was significant for a different reason...because it was recognized as the biggest money fight inthe soprt...and would bring incredible money into the pockets of those who control a great deal of the sport. It would also generate a lot of interest from the public, which the sport certainly needed.

But Mayweather-De La Hoya didn't have that kind of competitive meaning because De La Hoya never came close to proving himself as the best junior middleweight after coming back down in weight from middleweight (where he arguably lost two fights instead of just the one on his record). It was a chance for Mayweather to fight and win a world title in another weight class, but while it undoubtedly came agaisnt a future hall of famer, De La Hoya has basically been in a state of extended semi-retirement since about since 2004 and it was understood he would not be remaining at 154.

All true. Mayweather was willing to risk his ego for a glorified sparring session with Oscar, and that only after the money was considerable.

There should be a clause in the Kessler fight that joe is not allowed any tune up fights. Sort of to protect Kessler's interests.

I was watching Kessler on U-tube. This fight is such a toss up. Some poster said it best here:"Joe might have the speed and maybe even the power but Kessler punches straighter". Kessler's combo punching is superb, his lack of experience when compared to Joe might be the deciding factor although Joe has not really been in many big fights either:lol:.

Yeah, there's been a number of fights in a competitive sense that were bigger than Mayweather-DLH.

They just weren't the type of mega event that PBF-DLH was.

This fight is great(hoping it does happen:lol: ), it not only feeds fight fans with the fight we all want to see, it also takes the IBF one step closer to the falling off the cliff of obscurity and irrelavent:crafty: The winner will be looked upon as the Undisputed Super Middleweight Champ yet the IBF belt will not be seen. :cheer:

Kessler by UD. I think he has the youth, and style to finally dethrone Joe. But if Joe wins, I'll give him ALOT of credit and consider him as a great fighter.

It will do a half mill PPV easy.

And given the pound is like worth 8 dollars....you do the math.

in terms of memories, i'd rather look back and remember fighting in front of 70,000 fight fans than 15000
