Every fight is different. There are times when a guy is a good match. Margarito would beat up on Floyd, Floyd may break his hand, etc. But I guarantee when the dust cleared and Margarito was handled people would say he was an easy mark for Floyd. They would accuse him of fighting Margarito instead of somoene like De La Hoya, or Mosley, or even Hatton... a guy he probably will fight and is a legitimate threat to Floyd. Hatton has beaten top level opposition and has shown that he can be a devistating body puncher.

I think how well Margarito turned the tide in the fight - winning 4 or 5 of 6 rounds at one point on a lot of cards, and putting some serious hurt on Williams late - will become more appreciated as time goes on.

We could argue the merits of Floyd beating Baldy all day. Point is and remains Margarito had no right to call Floyd out and Floyd had no reason to accept a fight with a guy who is not in his class. Baldimore at least beat Judah. And Floyd has the right to accept a fight cause it benefitts him. None of that changes the fact that Margarito is beneath him.

Then why was he looking to fight Cory Spinks last fall?

Because of the merits of it?

    So was Baldomir.

    Judah=140.

Everybody has the right to call everybody out.

Baldy was not in Floyds class but he wasn't 5'11 either so Floyd went with Baldy.

Floyd made a specific decision to go with Baldy, a decision which does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to write Margarito out of the script.

    To address a few posters:

    1) Yes Williams might be the next Tommy Hearns and Margarito may actually be a great fighter. And maybe I will grow wings out of my ass and fly.... maybe. Until then facts are facts. Margarito was outboxed by a prospect fact. Margarito has not beaten a top Tier guy at ANY weight fact.

    2) Maybe Margarito's Roy Jones like reflexes and his Mayweather footwork has gone unnoticed by me.... fact:lol:. To my own ignorant eyes he looks slow, punches loopey, with some power... (not a whole lot) and has no footwork or defense.

    3) I could call Mayweather out tomorrow. So if he does not accept he is presumably ducking me? How people can argue that Floyd had any business fighting Margarito after last night is beyond me. Floyd has the right to take any fight he wants. He could fight Judah in a rematch tomorrow if the money was right. So because he could take a match with Margarito does not mean there is a compelling reason to fight Margarito. There is not, nor has there ever been a compelling reason to fight Margarito.... whether Floyd chooses to fight Gatti, Baldimore, or the cleaning lady this Does NOT change this fact.

Sorry, but Margarito wasn't a prospect or a contender...so by Williams beating him he is neither, either.

Your eyes may not have seen Margarito blocking punches...it's hard to see on television.

Margarito was the longest reigning champ at 147 and offered a fight to Mayweather long before he even decided to fight Baldomir (who nobody even knew before last January).

Margarito was certainly more recognizable (and respected, by most), he'd fought multiple times on HBO and Showtime and was regarded by the majority at the time as a tougher fight.

So then where are Mayweather and Hatton supposed to fight in November?

    At 140?

    Floyd has fought neither.

If Hatton loses his next fight....Is Floyd {or more likely, YOU} going to say "Uhh......Floyd was right to ignore that bum"

Fuck it....all Floyd has to do is stay retired, let the boxing world rotate, and keep talking.:dunno:

I'll clearly state my point, Mayweather would certainly prove more beating Margrito at 147 than Hatton at 147.

Come on Mitchell you are being dense with me:lol:. Because Floyd chooses to fight a scrub it does not validate his decision to fight/or not to fight Margarito. The issue is whether Margarito has shown enough bones to demand a fight with Floyd and that issue stands on its own.

The issue is not who Floyd chooses to fight. The issue is who has a legitimate gripe when they say Floyd is ducking them. Margarito does not categorically have a legitimate gripe when he says PBF is ducking him.

Margarito is STILL a tough fight for Fraud. Fraud has none of the physical advantages that troubled Margarito.

But then again Fraud groupies will say things like "Margarito got beat by a prospect, Floyd doesn't have to fight Margarito" and "Paul Williams is a prospect, Floyd doesn't have to fight a prospect."

Shit, does Fraud Mayweather have to fight anybody to prove his legitimacy or have you all put a crown on his head, and his nuts on your chin preemptively? :dunno:

Exactly, to mention nothing of the fact that the guy Margarito barely lost to, might well make Floyd himself look like a fool, not that Floyd would ever fight him.

I don't buy into the term "duck" when it's being used by a fighter or promoter.

It's a loaded term and I usually don't care for it in any usage.

I said at the time, repeatedly, that Margarito was the tougher fight and Mayweather would prove more by taking it than he would against Baldomir.

I said the same thing about Spinks.

    They're both better than Baldomir.

  25. Hanzy

    Hanzy "Twinkle Toes" McJack

How so? The fight was there to be made, everybody here wanted to see it, Floyd was offered a sh*t load of coin. Instead we got Floyd/Baldomir which nobody really cared about.
I can't respect the fact that fans, either lovers or haters, will point to a man's loss and say "See, I told he was no good, he wouldn't have had a chance against Floyd anyway."
That's what's killing this f*cking sport IMO. You just wait and wait till something like this happens and then you can parade about it and talk sh*t like Xplosive and them are all doing now that Margarito is temporarily out of the picture.
You can't condone Floyd for pulling the old duck-job.

What top guys had Margarito beat at any weight? Blood clottey? Cit-who?-tron?

If you want to argue the fight that is a different issue. Williams did more than margarito that is what I saw. I tend to reasonthis way: If Margarito was unproven against top guys, if he does not look like he posseses great skills and ability and if a prospect looked like he did more than him (regardless of his blocking) I can't argue that Margarito is a top tiere guy.:dunno:

    This thread is a joke..

Antonio Margarito would be a handful for any welterweight in the world.. And more than a handful for any that aren't 6'1" southpaws that average 100 punches per round.

Don't tell that to the Fraud nuthuggers.

According to them, he doesn't have to fight Margarito because he lost, and he doesn't have to fight Paul because he's a "prospect."

Looks like Fraud cleaned out the division without throwing a single punch. No more work to be done for the Fraud groupie.

Apparently Floyd is on such a pedistool that he doesn't have to fight anybody, anymore. His fantastic win over a shot inactive De La Hoya is proof enough of his greatness.
