Inspired by X's thread. Mayo in his prime @ 147 a few years ago versus Margarito of the last couple years. Who wins?
Mayorga via competitive but deserved UD. Faster and punches from all angles. And Margarito doesn't punch hard enough to discourage him I don't think.
I remember not too long ago Margarito had alot of trouble early with that bum Lujan(the one who's ear he nearly took off) and that guy was a homeless man's Mayorga, so I wouldnt rule out a mid-round stoppage for Mayorga. If not, then I think he takes a close, maybe controversial decision. Margarito would be more active, and hitting the body, but Mayorga's punches would be more thudding, and he'd probably hurt Margarito, or perhaps even drop him at some point. Mayorga by MD.
Margarito by decision. I think Antonio could stop him if he went to the body, but he'd probably neglect that tactic in a fight like this making it much closer then it could be otherwise.
I still think that had they fought in 02-03 Mayorga could very well have won. Not only because Mayorga was prime then, but because Tony hadnt hit his peak yet in 03. Prime for prime, today's Margarito vs the 03 Mayorga.... Margarito by UD, or a late TKO if he really committed to the body like Whiskey said.
