Floyd Mayweather Jnr or Oscar De La Hoya?

    Well let's see:

Oscar fought Quartey, Whitaker, Trinidad, Mosley, Hopkins, Vargas, Chavez, Mayorga and Mayweather

Mosley beat him TWICE, Hopkins knocked him out, Trinidad beat him, Mayweather beat him, most people think he lost to both Whitaker AND Quartey, Vargas was the living dead by the time Oscar got to him, Mayorga was Trinidad canon fodder and Chavez was undersized and overaged!

So after that...WHO did Oscar ever beat?

At 130lbs, Mayweather was the first man to knock Corrales down, let alone do it five times, let alone beat him, let alone stop him inside the distance.

Mayweather fought CASTILLO in his first fight at lightweight and beat the man twice....the first time with a damaged left shoulder.

Mayweather then proceeded to add to the two championships already mentioned by winning the WBC belt all the way through to 154lbs, culminating in beating the aforementioned oscar De La hoya in his 5th weight class.

So I'm not going to make a pick as to who is the better fighter for afterall, my intention here isn't to bias anyone  ...but let's discuss this OBJECTIVELY!

Excellent question Sly. For me Oscar slightly shades it right now. If Floyd can manage to definitivly get on top the welterweight heap he'll pull well clear though.

For context: the best fighters of the last 20 years:

    01. Pernel Whitiker
    02. Julio Cesar Chavez
    03. Ricardo Lopez
    05. Roy Jones
    05. Bernard Hopkins
    06. Oscar De la Hoya
    07. Floyd Mayweather
    08. Mike McCallum
    09. James Toney
    10. Evander Holyfield

Oscar has more losses, but fought tougher opposition. While you can argue that he didn't deserve a couple of his biggest wins (Quartey, Whitaker), you can still argue that he did deserve them (it's easier to score the Whitaker fight for him than the Ike fight) and that he deserved the win over Tito (and the Mosley rematch). That's always been one of the problems with rating Oscar all-time.

Floyd is younger and has more upside and when it's all said and done I think he will end up being looked upon as the greater fighter, but he's going to have to do some things in the next couple years in a terrific division if he is going to really stand out from Oscar and the other top guys of this era.

Oscar got the better names in his resume, but his loses and his questionable big wins have tarnished his reputation....Floyd is unbeaten but lacks the big names, I don't know, it's a toss up

finito beat an unprepared sorjaturong and BARELY beat rosendo alvarez. who else has he beaten that's noteworthy? Ohashi?

Floyd's competition at 130 is superior than Lopez' reign at strawweight.

Floyd also beat much bigger guys and won titles in 5 divisions.

Lopez never had the balls to move up and fight carbajal or gonzalez.

compare the names on their resume.

lopez didn't have a balls to move up? that guy was a midget dude it wasn't his falut it was the genes...thats like saying some midget didn't have the balls to grow 2 feet and ride that ride...

he moved up towards the end of his career and barely fought. he missed out on the opportunity of getting a career high payday against either carbajal or gonzalez.

stop pulling shit outta your ass.

lopez is a midget you fool he can't handle anymore weight...even if he did move up he is 10 times worse than he was cuz he's a fat slow midget then...for him one move in weight would be the same as asking floyd to move up and fight klitscko? why won't floyd fight klitschko? i'll tell you why cuz he's a loud mouth pussy

Well my first thought is that Floyd announced his retirement. He hasn't said he UN-retired yet:laughing: so since Floyd's career is over and ODH's career might be over(see he hasn't been stupid enough to say "I'm retiring":tease: ) Oscar by far has the better wins right now.

Difference between Lopez and Carbajal: 3 pounds (less than what Mayweather was out-weighed by Oscar a day before the fight)

Difference between Floyd and Wlad: 100 pounds.

but for lopez 3 pounds is a lot..108 was a completely different world for him..a world he could never be a part of....lets face it he's a midget with little baby bones...you think he can just put on weight like that??..i bet to make 105 he had to carry bricks in his pockets...guy looked like he just escaped from aushwitz...

If Floyd fought Trinidad, Hopkins,Quartey, Whitaker, Mosley and Vargas he wouldn't be undefeated either.

Oscar easily. Floyd's garbage. One loss and his entire career will be called into question.

If Floyd can truly clean out the Welterweight division as it is right now I will have gained a ton of respect for him. And by "clean out", I don't mean he waits around until the top ten guys all take each other out and then fights the last one standing.

Out of Mosley, Cotto, Williams and Margarito..........I'd like to see him take on at least 3 of those guys eventually.

If he does that and looks impressive, even in losing a fight or two, he will move pretty far up my personal all-time rankings.

I'm not interested in a Hatton fight and even Mosley doesn't intrigue me very much to be honest. Shane is one of my favorites but I don't think he has as much left as most people think.

The chicken sh*t won't fight any of them. Forget him. Chicken Boy is afraid of challenges. But I don't know if I can blame him. Most fighters turn out like that when they start gaining notoriety and fame. Chicken sh*t is on such a pedistool now, thanks to his blind fans, that he feels he doesn't have to fight anybody out there because nobody is worthy of fighting him.
I don't understand why he hasn't even begun negotiations yet for any of the top welterweights in his game. They're all calling him out. Hell they've been calling him out for the past year.
Just hurts the sport to see sh*t like this, and what's worse is that his fans condone it and still ride his little jock.

i admit, floyd was lucky to face average fighters for his titles.

if you think about it, none of his title winning efforts were impressive considering he fought the following to win his actual titles

    130: old hernandez
135: castillo, but he could've lost
    140: gatti
    147: baldomir
    154: old oscar

take them away, his other impressive showings were agaisnt Corrales, Chavez, Corley, Castillo (rematch), and Judah.

still, a much better resume than Lopez.
