I think Winky will win this fight quite easily. Hopkins couldn't win either Taylor fight because he couldn't throw enough punches. He then stepped up to 175 and found someone who would join him in a staring contest and never make Hopkins really fight.

Bernard was able to dominate Tarver because Tarver never made Hopkins fight. After he found out that he couldn't bully and hurt Bernard, he simply let Hopkins win the fight his way.

Winky is not a counter puncher, and for all his "defensive cutie" and "slick southpaw" knocks, he has a fighter's mentality. He wants to walk forward and throw punches. He will make Hopkins fight when Bernard doesn't want to. And nothing we've seen from Winky in the past 4 years against elitte competition suggests that Hopkins will be able to hurt him enough to alter the fight.

    Winky on a clean UD.

I liked your assesment until this part. To me that is the real question mark.. Winky coming all the way up to 170 to face a bigger, stronger guy causes me to have some questions about Hopkins power having an impact. And Hopkins, despite his recent outings, can throw hard shots.

I think the fight will hinge on Bernard being able to do something, anything, to make Winky fall into Hopkins' standard trappings of slow pace and output. Bernard might do it with clinches, great defense or powerful counters. Regardless, my money says Bernard comes up with something.

I agree with this. Also, Wright may not be a textbook counter puncher, but his current style is Punch-Defend-Punch...it still is based on waiting when there's a spot to throw. Hopkins' output is low, but so is his time spent at a puncher's distance. He's either all the way in, tying up and landing semi-legal shots to the body and back (away from the ref's side), head on the chest and shoulders, or he's well on the outside, making the opponent come forward, when he likes to land his lead right hand. He's not a power puncher per se, but SOMETHING in the punches he lands is enough to have every fighter he's faced very leery of pouring on pressure, with the exception of Taylor and I don't think he did a good job of that in those fights.

Probably. The only reason i'm even reading a thread about is because i'm so bored. The threads in the aftermath of the fight will be more entertaining than the fight itself, just watch.

This is going to be my biggest bet on a fight of all time. I am fairly certain that Hopkins will win. I will take another dimeball on Hopkins tomorrow.

When have either Wright or Hopkins been involved in a 'good' let alone 'exciting' fight? :dunno:

I really enjoyed Wright/Taylor until the scores were read. I liked Wright/Mosley 2 as well. Hopkins/Tito was excellent and Hopkins/Taylor I wasn't too bad.

Yes. Wright has been involved in good/exciting fights with Vargas, and Simon. And Hop has been involved in good/exciting fights with Tito, and both fights with Echols.

I think at 170 Hopkins is going to be very comfortable - and conversely, Wright's style isn't going to translate as well and he won't be as effective.

Hops' right hand is going to work overtime tonight, as is his uppercut and short right cross inside.

Hopkins will not sit still and will continually circle and make Wright re-set...then fire that right hand lead and counter over Winky's jab, maul and hit the body.

I think people will be dazzled by Wright's workrate and will be distracted by that and point to it as if that wins fights (per usual), but Hopkins will put in the better work.

    Hopkins MD.

    Peace.

Hopkins may resort to the hit and hold too, which will give him the edge. He used it a lot against Tarver with great success. Throw the lead right hand, fall in, and grab his opponent, thereby winning the exchange.
