Lately, REED Hasn't had Much GOOD to Say about Brian Kinney Since he Got on his "Linear/Ring Magazine" Campaign & Basically FORCED the Floyd-Baldomir Fight. But Being FAIR, REED's Gotta Give Kinney his PROPS for the Way he Treated the Bernard-Winky Fight, Last Night... N his ESPN Post-Fight Report, Kinney COULD have Been VERY Negative about the Fight Itself & Used it as an Opportunity to Provide Comic Relief for the Casual ESPN Boxing Viewers... Let's B Honest...How Many Times will YOU RE-Watch Hopkins-Wright, AFTER HBO Replays it Next Week???:dunno: ...That Could Very Well B THE LAST Time REED EVER RE-Watches that Fight... Regardless, Kinney Focused on the POSITIVE of the Fight Itself & Put the Sport ABOVE Himself...Kinney DOESN'T Need to Cover Boxing for ESPN...He's Done just about EVERY OTHER Broadcasting Gig that they have Available & it's QUALITY Work...But Kinney LIKES Doing Boxing & He Clearly Looooooooooooooves the Sport... Kinney Could have EASILY BASHED the Hopkins-Wright Fight & Turned Off MORE Mainstream Fan from Boxing N the Process...But Kinney Gave a POSITIVE Account of the Fight & DIDN'T Belittle Boxing N the Least... As a DIE-Hard Boxing Fan,REED Thanks Kinney for Doing that Last Night & APPLAUDS his Loooooooove for the Sport... REED:clap:
I thought it was a good fight. Sure it wasnt a great action fight, but seeing one of boxing smartest fighters break down a guy whos looked unbreakable for years was interesting to me.
Kenny raped Fraud vocally, it was a splendid apparatus, a certain member of this forum believes if you've never laced them up, then your opinion isn't valid, and so he was mocked and laughed at by Fraud's groupies for months previously, but then suddenly the searpent of temptation raises up and says the exact same fucking thing  ,.. and Fraud fans,....stunned, jaw a little..before exploding at the killjoy who popped thier boxingtalk.com fantasy with a bit of raw logic,..........WAR!!!.....AHHH!!!....Kill him!! kill him!!! kill him!!! kill him!!! RACIST! ARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!.. just the way they did to Larry Merchant too ,..and to Margarito ofcourse...
:bears: Good post...but isn't it Kenney? Anyway, you have to check him out on ESPN radio now that Dan Patrick is resigning. He has been on twice recently and really pumps boxing. Now, he doesn't do it in a cheesy way either. I dont know how to describe it, but he makes it actually seem relevant to the sports world....which, in the eyes of many, isn't.
:bears: Good. For the record, I thought at the time Floyd fighting Baldomir was the right move. I just hope Floyd follows it up with some of the other top guys in that division.
I agree completely. I was thinking the same exact thing about Kellerman as well. He was focusing on the positives during the post fight interviews and trying to put the sport before his own limelight. God knows what would have come out of Merchants old ass bitchy mouth.
Merchant wouldn't have been as hard on this fight as he was for...Taylor-Spinks...let's say. At the end of the day, although there was quite a bit of holding, neither man was trying to run and "stink the joint out"...which is WHAT Merchant detests the most....and all that he's ever complained about. Do some of you even watch and pay attention to what's going on?
Of course I was paying attention. And Hopkins was holding and running like a bitch all night. And that is what Merchant considers "stinking the joint out". Do you pay attention??
 Funny comeback, I must confess. Merchant doesn't mind Hopkins' tactics, per se....it's guys like Spinks that he detests....or guys that get an early lead and protect it by running (De La Hoya-Trinidad). Merchant wouldn't have been that upset last night. The fight was fairly entertaining...nice and tough and gritty...not unlike Hopkins-Echols and i don't remember Larry hating that one.
I guess we have to agree to disagree. I thought the fight was quite boring. Waaay too much clinching and running. Thank god for the undercard.
Merchant & Bernard HAVE "Went @ it" VERBALLY B 4... After the DREADFUL Hakkar Fight,Merchant Started Bitching & Bernard Replied,"STOP Being IGNORANT,Larry"... REED::
:: I remember that. but again, it was because of Hakkar stinking out the joint (if my memory serves me correctly, hakkar was running faster than Carl Lewis) and Larry just took it out on Bernard.
Larry also said Fernando Vargas would beat Hopkins. That was not one of the high points in the career of Larry Merchant.
The POINT is,Merchant would've Presented Last Night's Fight as a NEGATIVE for the Sport of Boxing... Merchant's a PISS POOR "Ambassador" for the Sport that's SECURED him for Life,Financially... REED
I really think Larry and Bernard like each other. They'll get a little prickly with each other at times but I think there's a mutual respect.
When Steward stood up for Larry, Hopkins would have called him an Uncle Tom (for the second time) then walked away. ::
