Has anyone been able to avoid it? He's fought some pretty good fighters but he always seems to land that right hand at will. Was RJ able to avoid it back then? :stir:

Thats very impressive. If he was able to land that right hand on a prime RJ then I guess no one can avoid it:doh:

I think we should be discussing Hopkins sneaky headbutt. Hopkins is P4P#1 the best clincher and headbutter in the sport. He should be fighting under freeways and behind dirty chinese restaurants.

 I agree, defending his territory under the bridge.

It's nice to see another Hopkins hater,.. there aint enough on this board in light of recent events.

I don't even totally dislike Hopkins (even though he has messed up teeth), but people are seriously overrating his foul fest against Winky last Saturday. I read people rating Hopkins P4P #1 or #2, yet didn't this guy get beat twice by Jerbum Taylor not 2 years ago? How does he get ranked so far ahead of a guy who beat him TWICE.

Fuck Hopkins, I hope he retires, his fights are bad for the sport.

Well, I didn't think Hopkins lost either fight...and really see no way the rematch could be scored for Taylor.

See that's my problem with the whole ranking of Hopkins at 1 or 2. People are not looking at it objectively, they're introducing their own biases "Hopkins didn't really lose to JT"... umm, yes he did. I can see no objective reason for rating Hopkins as high as 1 or 2 P4P.

Objectively, he was a great middleweight that jumped two divisions and beat the supposed best light heavyweight.

But it's rather ridiculous to claim there isn't subjectivity in every p4p list.

I don't see how anyone could call Saturday night's fight entertaining. :shit: It was about as bad as championship boxing can get. The LtHW division should just ignore him and let him fight Joe and Roy. Chad Dawson should just clean out the rest of the division and let Hop fade away. He's boring enough to make anyone look bad and dirty/sneaky enough to pull a win out against anyone as well.

Hopkins' performance against Wright reminded me of Fres Oquendo.

What I don't understand is the fucking referee - yet again. He warns Hopkins twice for holding, and that's that. He didn't stop doing it. And yet, there were no consequences whatsoever.

Maybe people rank Hopkins at 1 or 2 P4P because he's beaten two previously ranked P4P guys in Tarver and Wright in back-to-back outings via clear decisions.. Throw in the 2 razor close loses to Taylor and that's a decent 4 fight streak for a forty somethingish fighter.

Precisely. Bernard did a great job of making sure Winky's eye remained busted open throughout the fight, and it had little to do with punches landed. Every time they got in close, Bernard wouldn't just headbutt him, he'd literally dig in and roll his head over Wright's cut.

He did land the more effective punches throughout the bout, but Saturday's fight had little to do with clean, effective punching

That sneaky right hand is one of the things Hops picked up from Roy. Roy uses the exact same shot - and clocked Hopkins several times with it when they fought. Hops landed his share of blows but if your looking for the kind of right he throws today, fast forward a few years.

"Bernard Hopkins is still the same old Bernard Hopkins to me. I see he bites some of my moves better but that's about it."

He shouldn't be ranked P4P higher than his x2 conqueror. That makes no sense at all since Taylor hasn't lost since beating Borenard twice.

I have thought the same thing many times. Whether you like the decisions or not, they will always be wins for Taylor. Both guys bore me to sleep lately, but to rank Bernard over Taylor is just biased and foolish.
