To me, this is a good BAD card. Vintage Boxing After Dark.

Is it possible Penalosa can pull off the upset?

    How about Bautista?

Yes, its entirely possible that Penalosa can beat Gonzalez. Jhonny is even slower than Ponce.

did you think Penalosa beat De Leon? i was reading in Ring magazine one of their writers say he thought the scoring in the fight was horrible.

either way, Penalosa doesn't belong at 122. at 118, i think he's ultra dangerous and a great technician - very relaxed in the ring.

I had the fight 114-114 and yes, the scoring of the entire card was horrible. Corrupt even.

yeh. basically, DeLeon out-worked him with tapping shots.

When I heard 120-108 I knew Penalosa was screwed from the beginning. Imagine, according to the judges he would have to have knocked down Plodder De Leon 6 times just to get a draw.

that's a crazy statement. Jhonny is better than Ponce in every way. He is faster, more skilled - overrall a better fighter than that stiff.

Maybe POnce hits harder but Gonzalez hits hard enough and combined with his skills makes him more dangerous.

I'm not saying Peñalosa doesn't have a shot but it will definately be toughter than Ponce.

I actually agree that Jhonny is more skilled than Ponce for sure. However, Ponce actually has quicker hands than Gonzalez and unquestionably has a better chin. I do think Gonzalez should beat penalosa though. Ponce should beat Batista as well.

Penalosa was very impressive against De Leon, He seemed pretty small for the weight too but he more than held his own, it could have gone either way.

    Is Bautista any good?

Batista has some good offensive tools and can punch pretty well. Not a bad boxer either. However, his defense is lacking at times and his chin is questionable as well.

Gonzalez was impressive early on vs Vask, and I think Ponce {what an unfortunate name} needs bringing to Dublin. Bumhard can beat him in 2 fights time.

Yeah I was thinking Dunne could beat him also, do you think they (peters) could entice him over

Peters couldn't entice the local slut with a wad of 20's and a bottle of Uzo. We'll have to make it worth Ponces time. Gate and TV money.

We'd have to make the fucker think he had landed in some sort of a once-in-a-millenium Irish bash-booze fest. Throw him off, like what happened Battling Siki when he came here.

Im getting a little fed up complaining about this guy, but then again he probably believes his own hype. He is just a bad fighter, plain and simple.

Takaloo regained the WBU light middleweight title with a stunning ninth round knockout of Ireland's Jim Rock.

After a relatively even opening six rounds, the superior strength of Margate-based Takaloo made the difference in the seventh and eighth rounds before the dramatic end.

At the start of the ninth round, the winner unleashed a massive overhand right which landed flush on Dubliner Rock's chin and put the Irishman flat on his backside.

By the time referee Mickey Vann had reached the count of 10, Rock had got up, but was clearly in no state to carry on.

Takaloo, who hails from Iran but has spent 21 of his 27 years in Britain, improves his record to 20 wins, with just three defeats, with 16 of his victories by knockout.

Rock, who will almost certainly retire after this contest, suffered his third defeat against 21 wins, with just six knockouts.

    That was in 2003:eek:

    4 years on........................

    good BAD matchups:bears:

suprises me that they put both matches as the lightweights though. a HW fight or MW and above showdown to go with one of the fights would have probably suited me a bit better but I guess I shouldn't complain:popcorn:
