1) Julian Jackson----Twice destroyed by McClellan and scheduled to fight Quincy Taylor, who also knocked him out just months after Hopkins won the title.
2) Gerald McClellan---By the time Hopkins won the MW Title, McCellan was a vegetable having fought Benn 2 months earlier
3)James Toney--- By the time Hopkins won the MW Title, Toney was already 3 years removed from even being close to 160 pounds. In fact, Toney was already fighting at 175.
4) Michael Nunn----By the time Hopkins won the MW Title, Nunn was almost 4 years removed from fighting at 160 pounds. Again, like Toney, he was fighting at 175+


I am not disagreeing with your basic point about all great fighters having a list of guys they didn't get a chance to fight, but the 4 you listed are completely ridiculous to throw at Hopkins..

Wrong Reed... You are trying way too hard to make it seem like these 4 guys were obvious possible opponents for Hopkins and that is fundamentally not the case. In the 1993 to 1995 span there was no one clamoring for a Hopkins versus Toney, McClellan, Nunn or Jackson bout..

You are only doing it now to try to minimize the fact that Roy Jones made a career out of NOT making the fights people wanted. The problem is, even at 42 years old, Bernard Hopkins is STILL willing to step in against the tough challenges.

Trying to draw a comparison between Jones avoiding fighters and Hopkins doing the same is ridiculous. In his prime Roy Jones held the imaginary P4P title for several years and fans were begging him to make big fights with top guys. Personally I don't recall anyone tagging Hopkins that way..
