If he fought any other than Pacquaio, I would say assuredly YES. He fought probably the best fighter in the world 3 ties and was knocked out twice with the second time appearing to getting easier. The only thing that throws a wrench into things is his loss to Zahir at 135. Morales would have an easy time with David Diaz UNLESS he has found a ceiling as to how much he could go up and be effective. Can he win another title or is he physically SHOT? Or both?
Morales is in an even money fight with a guy who quite simply, pulled a rabbit out of the hat in his last fight with a dude who has half a chest. Thats not exactly a glorifying reflection on where Erik Morales is at.
YES,Morales is "SHOT"... The Fact that he WILLINGLY Got Counted Out N the 3rd Manny Pac Fight should TELL U as Much... A NON "Shot" Erik Morales would NEVER WILLINGLY Quit like that... REED DOESN'T Know Enough about David Diaz to Predict this Fight,1 Way or the Other, but even if Morales WINS,it DOESN'T Mean he WASN'T "SHOT"... REED
I agree he's shot and much like with Gatti he's just fishing out his last paydays. If Diaz has enough heart he should easily be able to outlast Morales in a war. Morales is through.
Morales is past his prime. But he just fought Pacquiao back to back a this stage of his carreer. I think that will happen to most fighters at 130. When Morales losses against scrubs than I will call him shot.
it's sad to see, but morales will finish his career with 4 losses in a row. i hear that he's going to do some sort of a farewell bout in mexico, perhaps he should get eddie croft a new set of eyes and come out of a retirement.
he could be shot and still manage to beat Diaz. i mean, if ever there were a perfect 135 titlist for a used up feather-weight to have as an opponent for the opportunity to win a 4th title, Diaz is him. and i don't say it to denegrate Diaz. but he's Jesus Chavezesque in a way, and short for 135, and stylistically very beatable for Morales, and not a huge puncher either. for example, if this were any titlist other than Davind Diaz would you even bother ordering the fight, let alone give Morales any shot of winning?
Pretty bad that the WBC actually gave him a title shot on Morales when Croft hadn't won a fight in over 4 years. He used to train fighters over at the gym where I work out at, and from what people have told me, slurs his words.
he was also 2/3rds blind. his one eye was completely blind and the other one was damaged to a point where he should not have been fighting at all.
Best Post in this thread. We won't know for sure until he gets beat by a NON P4p fighter, again nobody gives Pacquiao nooo credit.::
Raheem was just a bad matchup for Morales, when at any point has Morales fought a fighter like Raheem?.................that's right, never!!!!
i dont know about that. Morales was overweight and simply looked flat. i think the fresher version of morales would've beaten raheem down at 126 or 130.
Raheem is not a pro boxer, he´s a pro wrestler, that doesn´t count. :: Morales gave us a watchable Raheem fight, that alone should rank as one of the greatest performances in boxing history. :tease:
If it was a close fight I would agree with you but that was a blowout,an inshape Morales would of been competitive at best but other than that he had no answer for Raheem's slick boxing style.
No doubt, Erik also gave him too much respect, when he started to push late, Raheem got scared as usual. I remember when Erik feinted the right in the 11th and Raheem reacted like he might flee from the ring. I know it takes alot of guts to get in a ring, but from a fighters perspective, Raheem must be the biggest pussy alive. Holding, tackling and crawling, everything not to exchange punches.
People act like Morales got destroyed by Raheem. Sure Raheem was able to land solid punches and pot shot sometimes but he still held like the shitty fighter he is in the last few rounds, and ran like a track star when he "knew" he was ahead on points. Also Morales was fat as fuck, and didn't belong at 135. He still doesn't belong at 135, but I don't think he has a choice anymore.
He does have a choice,he needs too stay in better shape outside of the ring.Morales is not a lightweight and should make 130 or 126 easily if he wasn't a fat overweight pig .
:: I am the against the grain motherfucker *am a Floyd fan *thought Margarito didnt do enough to make a case about robbery *not an accross the board West Coast fight fan
Good point. The words Raheem and entertaining are about as frequent as saying Donnybrook and decisive
:: I was a bit surprised to see doug do pieces on east-coast based kevin johnson, who isnt that good in my opinion. how about hopkins? are you allowed to talk to him? ::
for a while I was the only cat he talked to. :: I have done two chats two one on ones two roundtables and two open workouts with Bhop and he remembers who I am upon occasion. but he has changed IMO. He has gotten that Golden Mafia uppity stink about him of late. The only fighter/owner who hasnt gotten that way is Shane who is still humble inspite of who he works for and who he married and Kevin sucks. The only reason he did something on him is because he was in Cali sparring with Arreola
yea i ran into shane in vegas and he was very down to earth. the first time i saw hopkins was in AC after he signed w/ Oscar and he was kind of a dick. but he's very cool to his fans from philly and philly reporters.
and yea, johnson sucks. when he fought on that local card fightbeat broadcasted, i pretty much said on-air that he's boring and isn't that good. a few weeks later i gotta phone call from star boxing's PR (who i'm friends with) saying how joe deguardia was pissed off at me for saying that shit and that i dont know what i'm talking about. :: it's a bit ironic that johnson mentions malik scott (a philly based heavyweight stinker) because they share a very similar style. I would bring a pillow if i ever have to cover that fight if it ever happens, which i'm sure would take place in atlantic city.
