Steve Kim: "One bout being discussed for the November 10th undercard featuring Cotto-Mosley (which is still not a done deal) is a jr. bantamweight duel between Martin Castillo and Jorge Arce."
Now that I think about it, it won't be very competitive but then again I'll enjoy seeing Arce get beat up. :)
I wouldn't mind seeing Castillo-Arce, but it deserves a more appropriate location than MSG. If Calderon beats Cazares next month, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the undercard. If Golden Boy is co-promoting, then I can almost guarantee that Demetrius Hopkins will be on the card as well. Though against who, I have no clue, as he's not exactly the easiest fighter to match.
as long as the judges are adequtely corrupt, it doesn't matter "who" they match him up with, apparently.
I feel bad for Arce. No matter where he goes, he's fucked. If he stays at 115, his daddy Mijares will always be there to remind him how limited he is. If he goes to 112, he will be adopted by Nonito. Poor poor Arce.
Since when has Castillo been some great fighter? Arce has a real chance to win this fight. Martin has trouble avoiding brawls and Arce can make just about anyone fight it out with him. More important than that, while Arce cuts up, Castillo cuts and up loses because of it. Jorge is 150% live for this.
With Cotto in the main event they don't really need anybody else on the card to draw Puerto Ricans in. I'd assume Arum's going to have JCC Jr. making an appearance on the card, which along with Castillo and (more importantly) Arce, it could draw some interest from Mexican fans.
i wasn't considering Calderon a draw in NYC, in fact just the opposite; I was thinking more along the lines that he could use the exposure. and to eaner and Joony - perhaps Cazares does knock out Calderon, though it's quite possible it's the only way he's leaving PR with his title.
as do a lot of NYers. Shane was a decent draw here... excuse me, there... during his prime. at one point he was the only fighter to sell out The Theatre, and his fight w/ Vernon Forrest was the arena's highest grossing card at the box office, though Duddy may have since snapped that record.
true dat but I think Iron Boy bit off more than he can chew with Hugo you know thats another fighter managed by Sergio Diaz and Francsico Espinosa right?
ah, i should've known by your overwhelming enthusiasm at the mere mention of his name. :: that said, neither exactly have much momentum going for them these days.
actually they have done a bang up job with Hugo. He made some serious coin for the Dieppa fight AND got a REEDiculous amount for the Telefutura fight...more than I thought a little and unknown dude could. Man the stories behind him and how they have managed to keep him are great. I will tell you one day
