Ibragimov-Chagaev off: Sultan will now defend against Holyfield!
Evander gets shot at fifth world title
After the sudden withdrawal of WBA Heavyweight Champion Ruslan Chagaev from his October 13th unification bout with WBO Heavyweight Champion Sultan Ibragimov due to undisclosed medical reasons, Seminole Warriors Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions, Main Events and Golden Grain Promotions, in association with Sampson Lewkowicz and Yuri Federov’s Sports Lab, have announced that stepping up to the plate in an attempt to win the heavyweight championship of the world for a fifth time is Evander “The Real Dealâ€￾ Holyfield. Ibragimov-Holyfield sponsored by Nafta Moskva, will take place on the original date of Ibragimov-Chagaev, Saturday, October 13, at the state of the art Khodynka Arena in Moscow, Russia. Broadcast plans for the bout will be announced once they are secured.

So how does that work exactly? Ibragimov pulls out of the Chagaev fight due to 'medical' reasons? But is fit to fight Holyfield on that same date?:dunno: Doesn't Ibragimov want to unify the WBA/WBO titles? His stock would increase ten-fold if he held 2 versions of the belt and would give him a lot of exposure and power in the division. Why resort to fighting irrelevant old stiffs who've been non-factors for the past 6-7 years?

Well Karl pretty much guaranteed that his boy Holyfield could handle the likes of Ibragimov. Guess we'll see now if Holyfield is as shot as we all thought.

 Totally misread that. It was Chagaev who pulled out, not Sultan. My bad! Anyway, I guess Holyfield deserves his shot since everybody else is occupied.

I can look into my crystal ball and see the future. Holy will beat Sultan, no doubt. in the meantime Wlad will fight Chagaev and stomp him into the ground and setup a bigtime HW showdown or at least that's how they will promote it, between Wlad and Holy for the undisputed champ. Could turn out good:dunno:

everyone says that, but who's to say that Holy's "one last great performance" wasn't ten years ago. to me it's a bullshit excuse promoters and networks use in attempting to sell a fight.

all this said - am I the only one who senses a "bait and switch" was pulled here? everyone was talking for the longest about Holyfield fighting not just for a title, but against Ibragimov, "if" he beat Savar-easy, as if there were never plans for Chagaev-Ibragimov to begin with.

I don't know - just seems too neatly wrapped that all in the same morning (on this side of the world, anyway) we go from a Chagaev-Ibragimov press conference to Ibragimov-Holyfield being officially on.

Yeah I hear you Jake. Give it to Holly though he can sell a fight. The old war horse has put himself right back in the mix. Unbelievable. :eek:ld: Yeah I think this may have been the plan from the get go.

So where does that leave the winner of Maskaev/Peter who in turn has to fight Vitali Klitschko?

I sure hope you realize just how awful Savarese is these days, right?:dunno: Not that he was anything to begin with but these days, he's barely even a D class fighter.

Holyfield has always been one of my favorites, but I don't think the old warrior has anything left (so he beat a "never been any good to begin with" has-been Savarese, big deal), I'm afraid the 'Real Deal' will be the 'Lemon Clunker' after the fight.

Ibrigamov by TKO in the 10th.

Wrong, if Chagaev and Ibgagimov would have fought the winner would have had that much more of a chance with Wlad for a good payday on HBO after they fought.
