well hatton beat an old tszyu and unified against maussa to win the fighter of the year award. if mayweather beats hatton, he'd have a win over an old oscar and a win over a young unbeaten p4p fighter. i'd say yea.
Yes. If Mayweather beats Hatton, Floyd still has some other solid candidates to compete with in this category. Marquez bros, Kessler/Calzaghe winner, Cotto, etc...
I say the winner if this fight edges FOTY if they win impressively. So far it's nonito, but that's based on one spectacular win.
I guess what matters is how Mayweather wins. If he stinks out a decision, then the answer is no. If he wins impressively, then yes.
He made Tszyu quit and had a legit KO (over a bum) later that year. Floyd stunk up the biggest fight in history. To follow it with another con job doesn't help his case.
Hell yes! Certainly! He'll have a KO win over Castillo, and a win over the P4P King. That pretty much equals to FOTY. On the other hand, if Floyd wins this fight impressively(which I believe he will) it should go to him.
He is, yes, and Arce is at least as good as victor. It was the sheer dominance and effortless brutality of Nonito's KO that gives him FOTY, in addition to being given less of a chance than Mijares.
Donaire, fighter of the year? Ugh. Rafael Marquez already deserves it more than he does and come this weekend, will have more than twice his claim.
I don't think so. Hatton beat an older B-class fighter in Castillo and Mayweather really lost but got a gift over DLH. Not to mention that if Mayweather beats Hatton , more then likely it will be a stinker. IMO none of the above is FOTY material. Cotto is getting overlooked here. To say you think its set in stone to me is ridiculous nut riding. You are only saying its set in stone because you ride the PBF nut wagon and if someone like Hatton manages to beat him , well because he beat the greatest ever in your eyes , well then he must be FOTY.
So you think Vazquez is better than Marquez? Wasn't marquez the favourite anyway? I place quite a lot of importance on a heavy underdog DESTROYING a highly regarded champ, like Nonito - Vic.
Yep I do agree on both counts. Vazquez probably did better than I expected actually, and I have never been that high on Vic. HOWEVER, Vic was a respected champ, unbeaten, never been down let alone out, and Nonito was a big underdog. I place a lot of importance on that, that's what fighter of the year etc is all about, or should be. Marquez was supposed to beat Vazquez and did, now he's going to do it again, I don't really see that as fighter of the year material :dunno:
Underdogs beating champs is cool, but that shouldn't weigh heavily in things like this. Vasquez was a better fighter than Darchinyan. Marquez beat him and made him quite. When he beats him again this weekend, thats significantly more than Donaire's one impressive win. It's strange you think Donaire's win is impressive anyway, seeing as you claim to have knew all along that Dachniyan sucked.
