This ends all the debating in this thread. It's funny that when Muzse provides evidence to back up his points no one has a rebuttle in return that answers his questions.

Man I can't believe people are basing Hatton's power on the Castillo fight and comparing it to when PBF fought Castillo. Especially when they fought 5 years before Hatton/Castillo. Come on guys. And for the record if anyone gets hit on the chin the way Hatton did Mausa anyone will go down. And for those that continue to claim that Hatton will stop PBF. If DLH couldn't do it what makes you think Hatton will. I'll Holla 5000

Yeah sure, and to get hit on the chin the way Hatton did to Maussa, the puncher has to have a lot of power

Whats your point bigdawg? This isn't about how good Floyd is it is about accepting that Hatton is a damn good fighter.

Muze discredits every Hatton accomplishment. Hatton has stopped Zoo and CAstillo thats a fact. The guy can fight and he can punch. Maussa was also a tough opponent and has a good chin. But I guess Vivian Harris tapped that ass so by the time Maussa got to Hatton he was garbage also?

Look man lets be fair to Floyd.... Hatton is a tough opponent. Zoo was arguably as good a fighter as Floyd to some people and nobody thought he was past it before he fought Hatton.

That's the most accurate post I've seen so far. But even though Tszyu was a HEAVY favorite, most people knew he was on the downswing because the man had fought approximately 3 pro rounds in the span of two years and was coming off of serious injury. Still, he was considered a p4p kind of fighter, the champion of the division, and (can't stress this enough) a huge favorite by casual and hardcore fans alike.

tszyu was a good fighter but how could you not think he was past it when he fought hatton?

he was inactive and coming off several injuries.

I'd like to know what opponents that Mayweather was knocking out in 1998, were better than Kostya Tszyu :dunno:

Floyd has NEVER stopped a fighter as good as Tszyu, in any year, let alone '98. What? Manfredy or Hernandez were better? Yeah?

Because at the time people did not emphasize those thingsa bout Zoo. The experts certainly did not think this would make the fight competative. because by all indications Zoo was fighting well against Hatton, but couldn't execute. 20/20 hindsight. Nobody thought Zoo was lacking in any way going into that fight... they think that now to explain Hatton's success. You can always find a post priori reason to explain anything.

There are a couple of ways to look at that scenerio. If Zoo had beaten Hatton in a tough fight one might have said: "as an older fighter Zoo is a cagey veteran who has shown splendid judgement in picking his fights to prolong his career instead of fighting on a regular basis.

    Come on, Dsimon.

Tszyu had amassed plenty of doubters from the time he beat Judah to become the undisputed (and then easily out-pointed Tackie) to the time he fought Mitchell.

Let's not forget there was almost a two year inactivity period between the Leija and Mitchell rematch...and people were very down on his performance against Leija (which Jesse James quit b/c of his ear).

Tszyu-Mitchell II was almost like waiting for Klitschko-Rahman...and Tszyu picked up just as many doubters as Vitali did.

The only thing was there were so many people questioning Tszyu before the Mitchell fight that they neglected to point out the fact that Mitchell - although active - had also gone through his own injuries and had slowed down considerably since their first fight.

Mitchell had clearly lost quickness and mobility, whereas Tszyu was simply out of sight and was more of a question mark going into that fight.

He showed he still had pin point accuracy, but he hadn't been in a tough fight in years and there were actually people at the time who pointed that out.

As for Hatton, he had generated many doubters himself by never leaving England...or M.E.N. for that matter. He also managed to side-step boxers like Witter and Mitchell.

That doesn't mean people didn't think he had actual ability, but he was obviously protected at the time...as happens with most Frank Warren fighters.

He had Tszyu fight him in his home arena, with a referee that allowed him to get away with a lot of fouling...not a bad set up for a challenger against a top 3-5 pound for pound fighter.

Like I said before post priori reasons, 20/20 hindsight is splendid. You can explain almost every fighter's achievement away with it.

I don't doubt that there were factors that went Hatton's way. No doubt George Foreman was not feeling 100 percent when he fought Ali. Maybe Duran had food poisoning when he quit against Ray Leanard.

I would caution you Mitchell that you are seeking fool's gold if you think Zoo was in an obvious state of decline during the Hatton fight (he looked plenty sharp), if you try to explain away Hatton's success as the work of the referee, or if you actually believe that the decline of Zoo was so precipitious that he was not a dangerous opponent for Hatton that night.

edit: I am going to let you consider your statement carefully that Zoo had amassed plenty of doubters for the Hatton fight.

You're speaking like someone who wasn't around the 20 or so months when Tszyu was inactive prior to fighting Mitchell...when the last fight he had prior to it was a rather mediocre performance against Leija.

I stated that he was sharp against Mitchell, but Sharmba fought a very poor fight and had slowed to the point where he was significantly diminished - due to injury and wear and tear - from the fighter he was when they first fought.

It's rather weak for you to start talking about hindsight when I was around at the time and remember these discussions fully.

"It'll be great top see Castillo send Hatton back across the pond with a loss on his record." -Alabama Man

How did that prediction work out for you???

I see Hatton winning this one. It won't be easy. He'll train like hell, cut off the ring and come at Floyd for 36 minutes. Floyd throws 40 punches a round and crack an egg. Lying on the ropes and trying to slip and counter isn't going to work either when a guy is right in your chest pounding the rib cage.

Hatton wins 8 rounds to 4.

I know this is old....but this is spot-on, 100% based on what happened at the time.

Dsimon, this is NOT revisionist or "hindsight"....this is exactly what happened and how things were considered at the time.

Great to see PBF-Hatton happen; though it's happening 2-3 years too late.

You have got to admire Hatton's guts after his terrible near-miss at 147 vs. Collazo.

    Peace.

    Peace.

    .....

Very few people thought Hatton would beat Tszyu. he was being picked to be destroyed. Also, hatton and Tszyu were both rough. hatton;s low blow was the dirtiest thing in the fight but Tszyu was not exactly squeeky clean either.

Oh, Tszyu was still favored, sure....but it's erroneous to state that he was looked at as in perfect health and prime for that fight.

Plenty of folks were worried about Tszyu's age, stamina, inactivity (and lots of it), injuries and workrate....and to top it all off, on the challenger's home turf, on his time zone, his ref, etc.

He was certainly favored to win, but there was concern and many predicted a tough fight.

Hell, I remember Remus and I going back and forth about Tszyu needing to get Hatton out of there early.

As far as the "dirt"....I distinctly remember thinking Hatton was the much dirtier fighter in that bout. Tszyu has always been 'rough'; but what Hatton was allowed to get away with was significant.

    Peace.
