That's what I have been saying :bears:

That's what won him the fight, ultimately.

clearly vasquez's size and chin prevailed in this fight.

Like I said last night,...if Marquez chooses to box Israel, he probably slices and dices him 9 outa 10.

this is the wrong guy to go toe to toe with for Rafael.

I've seen Marquez rattled and stubbling back , out of sorts before. Tim Austin fight, one example. But Austin couldn't take Marquez' power shots. Vasquez CAN.

You have to give all the CREDIT in the world to Vasquez. He was leading the fight, taking it into the inside, trying to breakdown Marquez for the late rounds. Vasquez, cut in both eyes, taking bombs in return, kept on going.

CHIN was the main difference along with WORKRATE.

That's the Story of the Fight to REED...

    N The 1st Fight,Marquez HURT Vasquez N the Very 1st Round & Buckled him a FEW Times Throughout,B 4 Stopping him...Last Night,REED Can't Recall Vasquez EVER Being Visibly Hurt...

Raffy GAVE Nearly as Much as he TOOK but his Shots just DIDN'T Have the Same Effect on Vasquez as they Did N the 1st Fight....

Raffy just didn't Look "Right" To REED...NEVER Established his Jab,Looked a Step or 2 SLOW & didn't Have the Usual POP On his Punches...

REED would Still Favor Raffy to Win the Trilogy, but Clearly,REED UNDERestimated Israel Vasquez...REED Thought Raffy would have an EASIER Time w/Vasquez N the RE....

Any further development on Gary Shaw's protest with the WBC about Marquez' RAPS?

He was protesting Vazquez' hand wraps. Alluding to a possible Tito style plaster of paris cast type of wrap.

Shaw was objecting to Vazquez's alleged skinning of the gloves, the way Cotto and Barrera do, but it didn't look like it to me.

Also, one thing I've not seen yet in this thread is the credit that Vazquez deserves for the adjustments he made.

Vazquez gave angles a lot more in the rematch, and quit throwing the upper-cut so much that Marquez was able to counter. Also, he changed his rythm completely. He was fighting at a much faster pace, and moved in and out through-out the fight. Also, he worked his jab in to off-set Marquez which clearly Marquez was not expecting.

Marquez, for his part, was pretty crafty in there trying deliberately to cut Vzquez up more than anything - if you watch he was constantly rubbing his fists on Vazquez's face trying to cut him. And he succeeded but was knocked out before he could reap the benefits.

But Marquez has one hell of a jab and counters from the outside. In the first fight, he stayed on his jab and only got in trouble when Vazquez got close. He was able to control Vazquez with the jab somewhat...especially after the nose was injured.

    "However"

Last Saturday, Vazquez didn't let the jab bother him and upset Marquez's rhythm by using his own jab. I think Marquez isn't terribly comfortable fighting on the inside and like Whiskey astutely pointed out, Rafa's power comes on the end of his shots. Once you get inside, he's in trouble because his power is less prevalent.

Not to mention, after Rafa got buzzed in the third, his legs never looked the same. He couldn't stay away nor keep Vazquez off him.

I think of Cintron in the same light. He's obviously a strong guy, but if you make him fight on the inside and he can't get extension on his punches, he's in trouble.
