I wasn't "here" when it took place and didn't see it originally; but after having viewed it, I'm just curious....

After 5 rounds, how did you have it?

0-0 with five rounds even, although I´m on the fence about round two, that could have gone either way. Honestly I was sucked into the action and didn´t even score.

Marquez took home the first 2, the rest was all vasquez. I think now Israel will beat him the 3rd time around, just knowing that all he have to do is hang on a little, weather the storm and then tap that brittle chin, and it's over.

REED Didn't Score it,but Thinking back on It,Vasquez Seemed N "Control" of the Fight Pretty Much Throughout...

As REED Said to Mexican Wedding Shirt,"Marquez NEVER Really Seemed 'IN' the Fight"...

& Honestly, though it WAS Action Packed, the Bout was a Bit Tooooooooo 1-Sided to Validate the "Fight of the Year" Praise it's Been Getting...Maybe "ROUND of the Year" (Round 3???),but NOT "Fight of the Year",N REED's Opinion...

I scored the first round for Marquez... halfway through the 2nd round I was 100% sure it wasn't going the distance so I stopped scoring.

Ok, thanks for some perspective...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base; the way I heard/read some folks talking about it it was competitive but with Marquez winning most of the rounds or about even...

I had it 4-1 for Vazquez after 5! I like Bernstein/Charles but it really seemed like they weren't picking up on alot of what Vazquez was doing...

And the same seemed to hold true for press row.

    Peace.

Honestly, I find myself disagreeing with Showtime announcer's scorecards more so than I disagree with Harold Lederman. Bernstein is extremely subtle in his bias, but you can clearly tell which way he's rooting the moment he reveals his scorecard. Al is a lot of good things, but objective is rarely one of them.

i wouldn't call him that, but yeah that's the statement of a blind man - that fight was back and forth for 5 rounds even if u have Vasquez winning the last three, Marquez dropped some rights on him that could have ended the fight at any point especially late in the fight there was a brutal right hand where i was thinking, if Israel can't get him out oh here soon, he himself won't take these shots much longer...

Marquez was hurt in the frst one, too and still bashed Vazquez' face in. Yes he was hurt more often in this one but it wasn't out of the picture that he could overcome that and don't forget Vazquez' face looked like he hit a train again so it looked like the first fight to me, except Vazquez being able to put more hurt on Marquez.

To me i think Vazquez needs to get him out of there fast in the third fight, too because his face won't hold up into the later stages of the fight - it just won't first two at least prove that.

    "Blind"???:dunno: ...

    U Act like REED Compared it to Corrales-Castillo I,or Something:lol: ...

Marquez Held his Own to Some Degree, but he Pretty Much Got the WORST Of Every Exchange,he was Hurt CONSIDERABLY MORE Times than Vasquez was & it was Apparent Pretty EARLY that Marquez WASN'T Gonna WIN....

Vasquez SET the Pace,CONTROLLED the Action & NEVER let Marquez Establish Himself...THEN he Knocked him Out...

So Yeah, even though it was Entertaining,Even though Marquez Landed his Fair Share of Shots, the Overall Product was Kinda 1 Sided to REED....

& Bear N Mind,REED Picked Marquez to Win EASILY...

4-1 Vasquez, 3-2 at worst. Though I do think Marquez should have been awarded a knockdown in the 5th. They exchanged hooks and Marquez's knocked Israel off balance.

Not a damaging blow, but still should have been ruled correctly.

I see what you're saying, and that's why I opened the thread...that was my impression somewhat as well.

It was no doubt entertaining, and every round WAS competitive, with some being damned near even, and I wouldn't question someone who had it 3-2 Vazquez...I would have a bit of a harder time swallowing an even score or 3-2 Rafa, but hey, at least that is still competitive.

But it always seemed to me that Vazquez was in charge and the fight was inexorably leading to a stoppage for Israel (as long as his eyes held up).

Vazquez made sure he started early; immediately establishing his jab (which the commentators absolutely ignored - they'd only talk about the jab when Rafa used it); consistently bobbing and weaving inside and using punishing short quick shots in succession (again often not credited in commentary)....and using angles to get his right hand in to Rafa's head to set up the big left hook.

One of the reasons I picked Vazquez was because he was brimming with confidence and seemed absolutely sure of what he had to do in the rematch - and he had Rudy Perez in his corner who is a vastly underrated tactician...meanwhile, I didn't think Rafa could fight a better fight. And knowing Vazquez, the injury had to be absolutely legit for him to stop fighting the way he did.

It was a great fight, competitive, and definitely FOTY candidate...but I can kind of see your point.

    Peace.

Actually ran into Corliss Williamson at a Starbucks a couple of weeks ago, that was pretty cool.
