Not Only that, but Mrs. JAKE SHARES the Same B-Day w/Tito,if REED's Not Mistaken... There's NO CHANCE N HELL of him Rooting for Roy N this Fight... REED::
Not true. He retired after beating Cherifi, after his first loss as a professional to Hopkins at 160. Prior to that - and for several years - Tream Trinidad had clearly stated their goal was to finish 154, go through 160 and fight RJJ at 168. They stated this repeatedly and pretty emphatically. Obviously, getting beaten by Hopkins derailed those plans/thoughts (rightfully so). But in no way did Trinidad retire because he had "no options except Roy." Peace.
If Tito could've gone back down in weight to 154, he probably could've fought a rematch with Oscar. DLH-Vargas was 4 months after Trinidad-Cherifi. I think Hopkins's domination of Tito took a lot of the fire out of Trinidad, and he hasn't regained it since. After fighting so long on a world championship level, maybe he would've been on the downside anyway, but he spent the large part of ages 29-34 retired.
Completely agreed and that's right on the money. Trinidad would have always lost to Hopkins (though I do think he was fighting a bit differently at the end of 154 and at 160).... But the Trinidad that fought Wright? All the fire and alot of the technique was gone. It never looked to me like he was even that interested in trying once he saw one left hook wouldn't do it and that it would be a tough fight. He powered himself so much on self-belief; and though he did some things very, very well; that self-belief overcame alot of his lack of versatility...such a comprehensive loss seemed to take it all out of him. Going back down to 154 for a rematch with DLH would have been interesting at the time if he could have made the weight. Peace.

What stretch run has occured to where Roy/Tito will ruin it? What does any stretch in boxing have to do with ANY fight? I can think of more than a few shitty fights during ANY stretch in the history of boxing. This is where I am coming from, and for you to say for me to take myself to where we ALL know you were inferring to MMA and me not being a "real fan" is absolutely uncalled for and prudish for lack of a more colorful descriptive word that will get me banned
AND? I can't ask a fucking question without being called a "TFK boxing fan"? His "stretch" statement made no sense, never will :dunno:
Well, you are wrong because it was either that or get a rematch with Oscar. Cherifi's of the world would not be allowed to happen again because he already did that, for you to have a problem with my post of Tito ducking Roy in response to someone saying the OPPOSITE, which given your post above completely contradicts this from the get go, speaks VOLUMES. My post came AFTER the "Roy chickened out to Tito" so I guess the Chicken comes after the egg :dunno:
He Said "Boxing is Enjoying a Nice Stretch Right Now"... R U DISagreeing that 2007 has Provided a "Good Stretch" of Matchups &/or Fights???:dunno: ... Hatton-Castillo,Diaz-Freitas,Barrera-Marquez,Floyd-DeLa,Pavlik-Miranda,Marquez-Vasquez I & II...& we have Taylor-Pavlik,Floyd-Hatton,Shane-Cotto Closing Out the Year... How is this NOT a "Nice Stretch" for Boxing Right Now???:dunno: ... REED DISagrees w/Jake's Point about Roy-Tito being BAD for Boxing, but Jake's Point about Boxing "Enjoying a Nice Stretch" Makes PERFECT Sense... REED
http://fightbeat.com/forums/showpost.php?p=461187&postcount=102 Floyd DLH? Most of the other fights haven't happened, how the FUCK do you know they will be good?
The Matchups THEMSELVES R Good for Boxing... N Terms of the MATCHUPS,2007 has Been 1 of Boxing's BETTER Years N Quite Some Time... & Like it or Not,Floyd-DeLa was a VERY IMPORTANT Fight... REED
Purely in terms of exciting or high profile matchups this is one of the best years of boxing in absolute YEARS. No question.
Yes it was IMPORTANT that De La Hoya funded Fraud's induction ceremony into his business enterprize with the fees of apathetic fans, the fix had to happen because it was IMPORTANT to burn the eyes of potential converts aswell. Reed have mercy.
The matchups are good for boxing, but that wasn't stated was it? DLH, Floyd may have been important, but what it actually did was :shit: for boxing. How dare I ask for a more detailed explanation from Jake No wonder I must be a TFK type of fan  Yes, reading is FUNdamental indeed ::
Most of them haven't happened yet, does anyone question why I needed clarification for "stretch"? I don't care if this year is the greatest year in the history of the sport, Roy/Tito will not hurt it in any way shape or form :nono: No sir.....
They are signed though, they are going to happen. The year has been great already, we've had some high profile bouts and some very exciting bouts like Vazquez - Marquez, some nice upsets, nice KO's etc. And there is plenty more to come. I agreee though, I don't see how Roy/Tito hurts it in the slightest. OK 2 washed up legends going at it - so what? It'll still generate interest, I for one shall be watching it, and I doubt it'll be a shit fight either. Not great, but not rubbish.
...and REED didn´t even mention the great fights not involving an afro-american fighter like Kessler vs. Calzaghe, Diaz vs. Diaz, Mormeck vs. Haye. :: j/k
You should get a three day ban just for being unable to admit you were wrong and making one stupid excuse after another. ::
My problem with this is perfectly illustrated in your responses - that more attention will be paid to this fight than the dozens of real fights already scheduled. The fight isn't even official, there's no set date, venue or network yet this fight - which is self-serving and means absolutely nothing to the current boxing landscape - generates more media attention that better fights that are already signed. I didn't infer shit. I don't even know if you watch MMA. I specifically said NFL, which last I checked stood for National Football League. As far as you being a real fan - well, if you're unaware of what's taken place this year and what lies ahead, then I don't know what to tell you. If people want to disagree with my take on Roy/Tito, that's fine I have no problem with that whatsoever. It's just people ignoring what boxing has attempted to accomplish this year that sets me off. That was the basis for our dispute, not this fight itself.
Roy still has enough left. Tito has once again not fought in 2 and a half years and has done NOTHING to prepare for a fight like this. Past his prime or not, Roy still has something left. I HOPE Roy doesn't sign. I hope negotiations break down because this would be a BAD ending to Trinidad's career.
What will Tito get for a fight like this? $4 million? More? It will be a bad ending because he'll get thrashed, but I'll save my sympathy for someone who isn't making more in one fight than most of us will make in a lifetime.
WOW you guys are giving Tito no shot? With Power like that all I can say is dont blink! Tito has a chance.
