... Lennox Lewis would have continued a few more years feasting on some bums and building on his legacy.
Which bums are you referring to? From what was rumoured at the time, Lewis was supposed to take on Kirk Johnson on that June date and then he was supposed to fight Vitali in the fall of that same year on ppv. Originally he was supposed to take on Wlad in a huge fight but Wlad got blown out by Sanders so plans changed. You might be right though. Lewis may have hung around for a while longer depending on how easy the comp was. But as we all know, any boxer who hangs around for the sole purpose of making money as opposed to the desire of being the best will not succeed. You'll only make it in sports if you're out to prove something. You can't achieve anything if you're only in a sport for money.:dunno:
Likely true. But like I said, he didn't give enough of a sh*t about fighting Vitali again. What's good about all this is that he's stayed retired. Not something you often see. Vitali on the other hand after stating his retirement now wants to return because his brother's on top. Who knows what Vitali really has left at age 36 and 3 years inactivity, not to mention his many injuries which he claims are all healed up.
Lennox took them all on....if there is one thing he cannot be accused of, it's "feasting on bums" and avoiding top challengers, IMHO. And he rematched every loss. Quickly. I was just looking at some footage of his fights the other day...I was never a huge fan, but it's amazing how under-appreciated his skill and power often are. Peace.
I like Lewis and could be considered a Klitshko hater, but no doubt about it that, if Lewis would have koed Vitaly easily, he wouldn't have retired. He mentionned numerous time that he wanted to fight Wlad before retiring, but, I think that he realized, that at his advanced age and at his point at his career, he wasn't willing to go through fire and suffer to win again like he did vs Vitaly.
Fuck Shitali Quitschko. Agreed. It would've been nice if Lewis gave Vitali a rematch, their fight was entertaining and suspenseful, but I don't really hold it against Lewis. The guy was losing his dedication to train and getting older. Better to get out on top than be like most guys and stay too long.
