Spot on. It's a fucking absurd analogy.

Established fighters taking on young champions happens all the time, there is nothing unique or comparable between Lewis - Ruddock and Cotto - Mosley.

It's absurd. Ruddock the underachieving, famous for losing to Tyson heavyweight puncher, versus Lewis the young olympic boxer puncher heavyweight.

Lewis becomes Cotto the Puerto Rican stalker/puncher who is already quite established actually and who'll be the favourite in this fight, unlike Lewis, against Mosley - an aging modern great boxer puncher who holds 2 wins over De La Hoya :notallthere: :notallthere: :notallthere:

There is nothing comparable at all.

No shit. If anything that analogy would have worked better when Cotto fought Judah.

it was definitely a close fight. i think Lederman had it 3-3 at the end of 6. and Vargas was doing some good work to the body, and landing the occasional right hand, or short left hook inside. Mosley was landing right hands to Vargas' temple, and then as Vargas' vision began to wane, was hitting him more and more. but i wouldn't say Mosley was in control. probably ahead on the score-cards but not by much. there was a reason they had the rematch.

and Mosley's answer for Vargas through much of the fight was to hold him. and Vargas was having some success throwing Mosley off him, and pushing him against the ropes. not sure Cotto could pull this off or not, but he will have to contend somehow with Mosley's holding if he intends on getting off in close.

Hey Mosley nutsuckers...If i offended y'all, suck it up. Cotto will stop Shane because he's a rising tide and Mosley is a hasbeen. :tease:

I am a Mosley fan, but it has nothing to do with that. It was just a silly analogy. Neither fighters are comparable, and Cotto is going to be the favourite to win this fight.

I am picking Cotto by decision anyway.

Why the hell do you hate Mosley so much anyway?

What are you talking about? I'm a die hard Mosley fan. I'm always rooting for him to win.

I just like to mess around with Muzse and phonetap, because each dreams about Shane at night.

I started on this "keeping Shane real" campaign when he was first deemed invincible and "multi-dimensional" by the masses....ERRONEOUSLY. I simply couldn't have that.

Believe it or not I actually want Shane to win the fight.

anyway...the fucking analogy doesn't have to be perfect, I merely said that this fight reminds me of the other mentioned because of the specific context that one fighter was undefeated but still seen as somewhat green and the other was seemed as a proven talent but perhaps a little on the slide.

It reminds ME of that fight...it doesn't have to remind y'all.

So suck it up mosley fans...I'm not saying that Shane=Razor...punks.

I liked the analogy Sly. Then again I remember that in those days Razor was considered pretty damn good! People were very suprised that Lewis came through like he did. Razor was for a time as highly regarded as Bowe.

In those days Lewis was constantly trashed BTW. And even after hs did a number on Razor everybody thought the Polish prince would take care of him.

Glad to see intelligence still exists on this board. It was a very similar scenario...that was an acid test for Lewis against a proven fighter. Some thought he wasn't ready for it...but he was.

You know I consistently hear this as the excuse that so called Shane fans claim as the reason they argue against him. Here's why I raise the bullshit flag. If he is considered invicible and you're his fan, you're happy to hear that regardless of if you think it's true or not. It's called a compliment and all top fighters get that label at one time or another in their careers when/if they look, pretty unbeatable. Roy's gone through it, Floyd, even Tito. So why don't guys like you and DoubleL do us all a favor and quit calling yourself closet Mosley fans. Just accept and be what we all know you are, Mosley haters.

The Razor part is bullshit Dsimon...I can't believe you'd co-sign with Sly's bullshit.

Razor was favored due to his LOSSES to Tyson and the belief that Lemmon wasn't any damn good. Which confirms exactly what I've said all along, his rep was based on LOSSES not on actual victories.

If Mosley hadn't beaten Oscar (twice) and was coming off consecutive losses to Forrest or Wright, Sly would have a point. Neither is the case therefore the theory is bullshit.

Lastly, Sly's comment about being a Mosley fan is a blatant lie. Put it this way, Sly is as big of a fan of Mosley as I am Mayweather or De La Hoya.

  13. slystaff

    slystaff Im Banned

not true. i could be a fan of a fighter without thinking that he's invincible. I was always a Trinidad fan as well...but if ANYONE had called Tito "multi-dimensional" I would have called them on that too. But no one did...because Tito wasn't a slickster with superfast hands and cute antics like Shane...and so people were not fooled to the same extent.

But people were suggesting that Shane was better than both Floyd and Roy and The Sly One couldn't have that.

  14. slystaff

Dsimon sees the analogy, you however, cannot see any further than Shane's green eyes.

Ruddock was seen as a proven talent (but he was no longer young and in his prime of prime) and Lewis was largely untested but with undeniable talent.

    THIS is the analogy.

  15. Father of Muzse

perhaps you can fool cats who haven't been around as long but for the rest of us we know better and call you on your BS.

Here's the Cliff's Notes of Sly's fighter theories...

Lemmon and Ali beats everyone in history (providing they don't fight each other)

Floyd and Roy beats everyone in history (if they were to meet, Roy has a slight edge)

Mosley couldn't beat anyone in history and providing the right matchup, he's comparable to Razor Rudduck.

    End of story.

    Who dares to disagree??!!??

And after a couple of more years goes by after this , PBF might decide to fight Shane. Then after he will retire before ever fighting Cotto.

  17. Father of Muzse

At the time Razor Rudduck was a year removed from the Tyson fights and was 29 years old.

Exactly how far out of his prime was he?

    BTW...Lemmon was 27.

Hell...to FURTHER shit on your analogy...Cotto is more tested than Lemmon was because Judah was the UNDISPUTED champion a year and change PRIOR to facing Cotto whereas Lemmon hadn't fought anyone NEAR that level.

I won't even bother adding in Corley...another world champ that Cotto has beaten.

If you want to stick with your story, feel free to do so but you only make yourself look worse by continuing down this road.

So while Shane was putting in some of his most dominate work and would have been pretty much favored over everyone in the division Larry Merchant goes on HBO and compares him to Sugar Ray Robinson a few sports-scribes label him invincible and your first reaction as a fan is to take up arms against him. To form a Mosley isn't indestructible bandwagon as you say. Yeah, you're a true fan through and through, I'd hate to see how you treat guys you don't like.

    Cotto UD.

Good matchup. Pretty much any outcome is reasonably foreseeable.

Cotto seems to be getting better, Mosely not so much. Plus, we know Mosely is a former juicer and without his mega-strength, he's going to have problems.

No one has ever proved that Shane Mosley took steroids. He was, however, one of many athletes called upon to testify late last year in front of a grand jury investigating the San Francisco-based company BALCO. Its founder, Victor Conte, and three others eventually were indicted for distributing steroids.

Which proves nothing. If I remember right he went there a whopping 1 time. He never tested positive and he also passed a lie detector test. So let me ask again, how exactly is it known that he took steroids?
