Povetkin isn't taking the easiest approach, that's for sure. Byrd in 15th fight if pretty impressive. I pick Povetkin to take care of him by decision

I'm more surprised that Byrd is going through with this fight. He's never avoided anyone at the top level, but to accept a fight where he's seemingly a steppingstone... he deserves props for it.

He has accepted his place at the feet of the mighty Eastern Europeans. It's useless to battle what you can't beat

Byrd has been a shot fighter ever since Ibeabuchi ruined him. He was still good enough to made Vitaly quit, but Vitaly was a known quitter ever since his amateur days.

    Oct. 27th :nono: :nono: :nono:

Remember where you heard it first.

I read Chambers/Brock is set for Oct. 5th on ShoBox. I like that all four fighters just made the fights and quickly. Somehow I get the feeling we´ll see a HBO B.A.D. show from Germany in January featuring Povetkin vs. the winner of Brock/Chambers and a title defense by Abraham.

    If I were seeding:
    1. Povetkin
    2. Byrd
    3. Brock
    4. Chambers

So why have 1 and 2 fight in the semi's?

Even if you disagree with my rankings, what is the point of having these two matchups?

It's not to make things easy on Povetkin or Byrd. Chambers is the weak duck of this group.

Obviously I can only speculate, but if I did matchups this way it would be to try to get Brock or Chambers all the way through. Hope Byrd gets past Povetkin and then look for some judge help against Byrd. Keep these guys away from Povetkin, if possible.

Give them a decent win and some confidence if you have to fight Povetkin next. Maybe going right to a title fight before fighting Povetkin is the plan?

They should be seeded in the order the IBF has them, but even that isn't right. According to the latest IBF rankings, they should be seeded:

    Brock
    Byrd
    Chambers
    Povetkin

Perhaps Showtime influenced the seeding a little bit, believing that Chambers-Brock is less likely to stink out the joint than Chambers-Byrd.

Yeah, of course you are right.

The tourney seeding should be as the IBF has them ranked. And I agree about no one wanting to see Byrd/Chambers so your guess makes sense.

I wonder how much is Showtime putting on this fight...their usual Shobox budget or something more...because I wouldn't think there's as much money coming in for Byrd against either Chambers or Brock as there would be from fighting Povetkin in Germany.

I don't know... you'd think they'd learn their lesson after the catastrophe that was the super middleweight tournament (with a whopping 82 tickets sold for the finals match  ).

Besides, is it both bouts being aired, or just Chambers-Brock? Chambers was on ShoBox earlier this year, I'd think he/his bout would be their only interest. I don't think I've ever seen a ShoBox broadcast from Germany, and yes Byrd alone would seemingly exceed their normal budget, esp. for a fight v. Povetkin in Germany. It's not like his last shit fight, where he could afford to take ESPN money given the opponent.

Do you think Byrd's wife would let him back in the ring with Wlad if Byrd ever became #1 contender for Wlad's title?

LOL, that whole "tourney" was shit and nothing good came of it. This 1 is much better. I think Byrd gets the best of this tourney. Povetkin beats him I think but Byrd goes to germany and receives another decent payday. if the payday wasn't good I doubt he would be going. In all likelyhood it's his best option.

These IBF tournaments do tend to work out for Byrd, though I don't see him beating Povetkin.

Overall, it's not a bad tournament...it probably has more talent than the one with Byrd, Tua, Harris and Nicholson, and it actually has some new blood in it.

She only will if she likes seeing her husband get his head punched in:lol:

I don't think she will allow it, neither do I think that Byrd is stupid enough to fight Wlad again.

yeah, I've argued that in the past as well, that while I'm not thrilled with Byrd potentially being in position to once again fight Wlad (or for the IBF title), this tournament beats a one-fight boxoff between Byrd and Brock, since neither ever proved they can be remotely competitve w/ Wlad.

Not only that, but there's a good chance that neither will be in the finals; I can easily see Povetkin-Chambers - and Povetkin eventually winning.

That's my predictions. Povetkins beats Byrd, Chambers beats Brock and Povetkin beats Chambers.

He's the best prospect but there's a few guys who would be decent favorites over him. He is a bit to undersized.

Why hope for that? there is a lot of value in him acting as a stepping stone for guys comin up. Who else should the prosepects be fighting? Brock is really not quite a stepping stone yet. Any one of these guys including Byrd should be a great fight for Peter IMO. If Potavkin or Chambers get by the winner would be a good fight for Klitschko eventually.

With one victory over Byrd Povetkin will eclipse the entire Vitaly resume! :eeeek: :eeeek:
He already beat the 2nd best guy Vitaly defeated (Larry Donald) and now Alexander is set to defeat the guy who made Vitaly his bitch :eeeek: :bears:

The only matches I care about all revolve around Wlad really,..

Wlad - Chagaev, Wlad - Thompson, Wlad - Ibragimov and Wlad - Peter II.

Povetkin's a FRAUD, he won't go three rounds with Wlad.
