Chris Byrd-Alexander Povetkin set for October 26 in Germany

no, I've never liked Byrd. I respect the fact that he took on the best at heavy, at least on the way up; he started cherry picking once he finally won a recognized title. But I never cared for the way he fought, his inflated self-worth, and his contradictory nature. I never really understood how the guy had any fans at all, to be honest.

Bullshit. What was wrong with the sm tourney?

The sm tourney had real prospects with real prospect records. Hanshaw and Mendy are still quality contenders.

This H tournament is okay, but it's not 'much better'.

Brock is decent, but had his chance and Wlad and came up far short.

Byrd is decent, but had his chance at Wlad and came up far short.

Chambers isn't decent, but at least he has a good record. Any chance he doesn't come up far short of Wlad? No.

Povetkin...we'll see.

 

THE SMW tourney didn't even have a winner. :: Hanshaw lost to a shot Roy Jones. Mendy? I thought he looked like garbage, where has he gone? Nothing good came out of that tourney. A bunch of crap. I consider all 4 heavyweights higher quality than anyone who was in that crap tourney. Bunting,Buchannan,Vargas, Huerta (Ughhh, I saw this guy throw a fight), just awfull. Pure mierda.

 

When this thread gets bumped in a year...we'll see. haha.

 

As long as Povetkin wins the tourney is a success IMO. If Byrd or brock win it's a failure.

BTW- The Huerta fight I saw him throw was against Castro, disgracefull. He went down from a phantom right hand even ::

 

Jake I am certainly no Byrd fan, at all. Nor am I a hater, he's just one of those fighters I simply don't care about.

I don't know much about byrd or his career. I don't follow the heavyweights, let alone one I don't like.

On topic though, I like Povetkin, I have been very impressed with what I have seen so far :bears:

He might look like a chubby faced dork, and exactly like my best friend's brother, but fuck - he can fight.

I like how quickly his career is moving too. Good on Alexander and his team.

 

Mendy was supposed to fight this month in MS, doubled with an Akon PPV concert the night before. That plan fell to shit when all that stuff happened w/ Akon earlier this year.

Supposedly, Mendy's promoters were in on the promotion w/ Shaw, and wound up taking a bath. As Bob Arum would say, the only way to make money in boxing is if someone else loses money. Mendy's people are still stuck in MS last I heard.

the rest is just window dressing, and probably shit that people shouldn't care about when choosing to like or dislike a fighter.

But to answer your question, yes there are a lot of fighters like that, even some that I am friends with (no names mentioned though I'm sure I've said too much already :: ). I just tend to get irritated by people who hide behind their religion in justifying the way they do things.

That said, his family (esp. his father) is a classy bunch , among the nicest people I've ever met.
