Which one is it? First or second? Boy, I'd love to see either of these guys against the feathers today. No contest.
Fenech maybe, but not Nelson, going to war might win you 1 of 3 against Barrera, but he would be in a stylistic nightmare trying to brawl with Azumah
I don't see Morales beating Fenech either - the guy was simply relentless, an undefeated, three-division (shoulda been four) before this bout.
Morales beats Azumah in the first fight then loses the rematch. Fenech was relentless, but against bums. Morales beats his ass down!
Morales would have better luck beating his meat. Wanna see Erik Morales laid out? Put him in the ring with a prime Professor. Sh*t, put him in with a 33yr. old Prof and you'd see the same results. What's he gonna do, outbox him? :: Outbrawl him? Forget it.
he should've lost to mario martinez the first time he fought. he had no business losing to leija either. azumah likes to fight down to the level of his opposition. but i must admit, he's one of the best rematch guy ever. what if sanchez never died?
Sanchez would beat him again, because Salvador Sanchez can not be beaten in a brawling type fight. WAR SANCHEZ
LOL. Sanchez almost lost that exact same fight to an Azumah who had less than 8 days to prepare. And 13 fights under his belt. I don't know how many Sanchez fights you watched but he wasn't the indestructible force he's made out to be today. Yes, he was a great fighter but he could be beaten. Would've loved to have seen a rematch - not right away, but maybe once Azumah got a few fights under his belt. Imagine going 15 rounds in your 13th professional bout?
Who's your boy? Now you're a Mexican? Or Boriqua? Or were you referring to Hopkins-Trini...oh wait... :tease:
Azumah was a very, very good fighter. Azumah did take the fight on short notice, but at the same time Sanchez was thrown in with an unknown guy on the same short notice and it turned out to be someone with world-class talent. Sanchez always got up for big fights, and he did very well against brawlers.
I think it's possible Sal would've beaten Azumah a second time but, then again, he barely beat him the first time. I also think you might be short changing Azumah. First, Azumah wasn't a very good fighter, he was a great fighter. Second, Sanchez was behind on the cards at the time of the stoppage - had Nelson not faded in rounds 13 and 14 he woulda upset the great Mexican. But it wasn't as if he faded from something Sanchez did. In only his 13th pro bout, he was fighting a 15-rounder...on eight days notice! So while Sal would've had more time to prepare, Nelson would have as well.
i agree w/ kb, azumah was a great fighter. his future success further enhanced salvador's legacy. imagine if nelson turned out to be some sort of a bum. sanchez hardly looked great against guys like cowdell and that freakishly tall african guy who azumah iced in 1. danny lopez was at the end of his career and wasn't that great to begin w/. juan laporte was very good, but like azumah, lacked experience. both laporte and castillo gave him very tought fights. he looked great beating down gomez, but gomez wasn't much at 126.
But nelson was in shape constantly. To me, he's alot like Kostya Tszyu was, in that he was fighting at a world class level in his first few years as a pro. The reason Sanchez had such trouble...and really this seems like common sense...is that he fought an unknown guy on short notice who turned out to be a HOF calibur talent. When you fight an unknown TBA type of guy on short notice, its not like you have time to scout and prepare for what you are going to face. Sanchez was thrown in dry against a guy that was in shape, ready to fight, and who gave him hell. There was no malaria with nelson in that fight, and no excuse to give other than "he took the fight on short notice"....but how come he gets to use that excuse and Sanchez doesn't?
