You're probably right on Vargas (I completely agree on Reid). But HBO was desperate to make a star out of Vargas, and believed that perhaps he could've finished what David Reid started, as Tito struggled big time in the first half of their fight, or at least the first 5 rounds. Of the HBO broadcast team, Larry Merchant was the only one who was a fan of Trinidad, probably to a fault - Tito's one of the few that always got the opportunity to make that one last statement anytime Merchant wanted to end an interview. Everyone else got the "this isn't an informercial" treatment.
In regards to this conf. call, and fight: dsimon, it's interesting that you mention what you mention about Mayorga, because I actually had the same exact thoughts about Fernando. I don't care what anyone says - when you have it in your mind that you're next fight will be your last, then you're already retired. It's just a matter of whether or not Mayorga's good enough to take advantage. I don't think he is - but then again this is a fight I wouldn't bet on. Whoever wins, it will be their first victory in a PPV main event. Mayorga's 0-3, and all 4 of Vargas' losses have come via that route.

well spotted i doubt Mayorga really believes he can even be competitve with the much bigger Vargas ________ Kid Paxil
