I was watching Holyfield/Tyson 1 last week... I always enjoy it, which is weird because it's more of a wrestling match than a boxing match.

It got me thinking... how many "clinch-fests" were entertaining, in your opinion? Name some if you can think of any.

Just about any Bernard Hopkins fight. For some reason I can stomach it when he does it but not when anybody else does it.

He's the only guy I can think of who makes clinching entertaining.

Ignoring knowledge and indulging in echolocation.
Tszyu - Hatton, the top 2 physically strongest bulls in the junior-welterweight division, in that respect, the grappling was sort of an interesting component, I think Tszyu was stronger in raw terms, but Hatton was younger, more tenacious, and simply had more vigor in the tank, spurred on by the enormous pressure of the crowd and the atomic knock to the splits sealed the deal.

Cotto/Maliginaggi - Cotto dealt well with Paulie's incessant clinching and managed to administer a beating all the same.

Whitaker/Chavez - Whitaker did his damnest to neutralize Chavez with grappling but Chavez managed to keep on coming.

that's because he holds and hits. so his clinching doesn't generally mean a halt in the action. watch, for example, his second fight with Echols. he held him all night with his left arm and beat on him with his right.

Holy-Tyson I is the ONLY one of Mike's losses which I can stand to watch. I never can watch Douglas-Tyson, Lewis-Tyson, or Tyson-Williams, its too painful for me.

Holy-Tyson I is painful as well, but I do watch it once in awhile. The atmosphere and crowd are what made the fight so dramatic. Had to be one of the most electic crowds ever.

I thought the Hatton/Tzsyu crowd was amazingly electric. But that's normal with the British crowds.

I can watch the first 4 Tyson defeats, but I have no intentions of again watching him lose to Danny Willams and especially Kevin McBride.

    Tyson-Bruno II...

Bruno was PENALIZED for Clinching tooooo Much, yet it was Still a GOOD,BRIEF Fight...

This was Mike's 3rd Fight Post-Prison...He had the FARCE Against McNeely & a Lukewarm Performance Against Mathis Jr. (Mike Musta MISSED Half a Hundred Hooks N that Bout)...

REED was Actually Kinda CONCERNED for Mike Going N 2 the Bruno Bout & Bruno TALKED a Good Game...

    But 1nce the Bell Rang,Mike's TIMING was Back,the Bobbing & Weaving,the HEAD MOVEMENT,the Hook 2 the Body-Uppercut COMBO was N Full Effect...

Tyson-Bruno II was Quite Possibly Mike's Last "Great" Performance...Mike Beat him EASIER N the RE than he Did Pre-Prison...

I can't even watch that one. In fact I'd rather watch the douglas fight. Holyfield-Tyson 1 was one of my most traumatic boxing experiences.

    Great example!

    Also....

    Duran-Leonard I; Napoles-Lewis; Monzon-Benvenuti I; Duran-Moore; Chavez-LaPorte...

    I'd also toss in Calzaghe-Lacy, Castillo-Lazcano, Karmazin-Ouma, Klitschko-Peter, ....

    :dunno: Toney - Jirov?....Clinch filled??..

Actually it was a disgraceful display of backtwisting by Toney at times, but he did show a tremendous amount of balls which probably forgives the felony in the end.

Agreed. The Bruno rematch was the ONLY post-prison fight where Tyson looked like his vintage self. That combination of uppercuts he finished Frank off with were beautiful.

True enough....I realized that after I posted.

    Toney-Williams did, though....still a great fight.

Good fight, could've done without the back-twisting though. :nono: Your a fan of backtwisting and other various felonies.

    It was decent.

The fouls and Stone's rants added to its entertainment level.

I disagree on Karmazin-Ouma, though probably my bias blinding me.

I didn't think Klit-Peter was entertaining at all. I thought it was comical that Peter couldn't win a single round that Wlad remained upright, but beyond that... once was more than enough for that fight, esp. considering that Cotto-Torres was its co-feature.

I forgot about Toney-Williams. I love watching that fight. It appeared that Williams was being competitive, but if watched closely, Toney was doing a number on him the whole fight, methodically picking him apart and wearing him down. Then finished the fight with a brutal right hand. Toney was a monster at 168.

Yes, your bias is blinding you. :kick:

I just re-watched that fight 2 days ago...very underrated fight; especially considering that Ouma came back from those 2 KDs and a very slow start to start to pull rounds and really tatoo Karmazin in a few rounds....and Kassim started to really swing for the fences!

I thought it was a very good fight....and after re-watching it; I believe Kassim was as ill as he claimed - he really started slow and looked lethargic with no bounce and reduced speed/aggression until the 7th round or so.

Given his performance in rounds, say, 8-12; I would have gone after a rematch if indeed he was that sick.

    Peace.
