Floyd Beat Castillo 5 Years PRIOR to Hatton Doing it...

Since Then,Castillo has been N WARS w/Chico Corrales & Juan Lazcano & TOUGH Fights w/Casamayor,Ngoudjo,Diaz,Reyes,etc...

AND he Fought Hatton @ a HIGHER Weight...

It's NOT Like Hatton & Floyd Fought "The SAME" Castillo...

Fraud never fought 'the same' Mitchell, or 'the same' Zab as Tszyu fought either, but Kostya wiped them out whereas Fraud comparitively struggled, ESPECIALLY against Zab, whom Cotto knocked out directly afterwards, what does 'the same' mean?..changed for the better or worse?..:crafty:

I initially got suckered into the Castillo was shot hype. I watched a web feed, really bad quality, tiny pic. And after like 30 seconds steward was firmly on the "castillo was shot" bandwagon, giving hatton no credit at all. And the blurry, pixellated castillo I was watching in a window did kinda look shit, especially compared to this white blur zapping around the screen grappling and beating him down.

But then I rewatched it in DVD quality, and I thought fuck, he didn't look that bad. He's never been a fast starter, and he was starting to land decent shots in the 3rd round, and his timing and accuracy didn't look shit, as often does with shot fighters.

Had he lost a step or 2 since floyd for example? Of course, almost every fighter does when they get over 30. But he just looked more overwhelmed than anything. He'd never faced anyone as relentless and bull strong as hatton.

I also thought he looked more demotivated than shot in his previous 2 fights.

I am no hatton groupie or apologist, in fact I even said to my girlfriend before the fight (who likes Castillo) that Castillo was a pretty good value bet at those odds. I thought he had a real chance.

A few years ago I actually used to say Floyd's power was underrated. He didn't look feather fisted at 130 and 135.

And he doesn't look feather fisted now either, I agree with that. But at 140 - 147 his power is average at world level, nothing more.

If floyd was a good puncher he would have been bouncing zab off the canvas, not vice versa.

And I don't care what anyone says, Floyd couldn't and wouldn't knock a tough guy like Maussa out with 1 headshot.

Hatton is the better puncher of the 2, this I have no doubt about. He is also stronger and a better infighter.

Floyd is a brilliant mid to long range fighter. He has perfect defense, fucking fast feet, awesome overall coordination and reactions and timing and accuracy.

But a great infighter? Get the fuck out of here Kenneth. He sometimes looks ok inside, when he does his funky little puckered mouth face and the shoulder roll, twisting and shuffling about, avoiding his opponent's punches.

But he can't generate much power, I have scarely seen him hurt anyone at all inside. He throws short pitty pat punches and a slapping left hook to the body.

He did stun Oscar that's true, and I was a little surprised at that. However, while Oscar has a GREAT chin, it's a strange chin. He is very difficult to properly hurt, I can't recall oscar ever being close to being KO'd or on queer st, but he has been stunned on numerous occasions and suffered flash knockdowns too.

Lest we not forget, even the formidable Arturo Gatti managed to rattle Oscar.

Floyd generates his power best at mid - long range. Those lunging right hands like the ones he clocked ndou with, with about 10 in a row.

I fully acknowledge that Floyd might simply potshot the shit out of hatton and even stop him late.

Personally I think floyd hates pressure, and it's a relentless Duran-esque pressure fighter who beats floyd.

I think if hatton is in superb condition, physically and mentally, he can do it. I am picking him by decision.

If Floyd beats hatton on the inside at his own game, and outmuscles him and pushes him around I'll be the first to give him credit, and give you credit too.

But Kenneth I think we both know, if floyd does win it's going be by safety first 12 round potshot :tease:

No, but with the potent combination of a great chin and no power, Bumdomir's opponents are usually always going to be carried the distance, thus he's the ideal opponent to judge both performances equally with Fraud's deprived power in mind.

    Result:- Vernon Forrest, 1 away.

:dunno: It's kind of odd for this apparent 'p4p king' to never ever deliver a virtuouso unprecedented performance against opponents his associates have fought aswell.

Roy Jones did so on a match by match basis. But I guess, desperate times call upon desperate 'measures'..:nono:

I hardly listen to the announcers, let alone let one influence me. But maybe, just maybe, the old trainer was right? Maybe Manny saw those signs of slipping against Reyes and Ngoudjo? Maybe that's why he called it 30 seconds in? Maybe he saw the shot legs of a fighter who had been in one too many wars to pull out a victory over a young, fresher, bigger, stronger, champ? Just maybe?

Ray Leonard looked good in the third round against Hector Camacho. A few minutes later, he was on the canvas, looking like the old fighter he was.

Agreed, for the most part. Ok...

    Demotivated? Jose Luis Castillo?

He did have a chance. Just like Barrera does against PacMan. In fact...EXACTLY how Barrera does against PacMan. Although in Marco's case, he'll need a lil luck and an opponent who spent more time in the bedroom than in the gym.

Hmm...average? It's not one-punch KO power but it'll get the respect of guys like Carlos Baldomir.

Not necessarily. Floyd doesn't always fight the same. Against Zab, he saved his hard shots for the body and walked him down a la Winky Wright. And it sure looked like he was gonna stop him before the fouls. Styles, brother, styles. Against Chavez and countless others, he spent much of the fight against the ropes and beat them the f*ck up.

That doesn't mean squat. He'd stop Maussa too, and probably far more impressively. Same result, different style.

    We'll see in December.

    Agreed.

Yes, he puckers his mouth (wtf does this have to do with anything?) and he does the shoulder roll to avoid the incoming. But, in between (the part it seems you overlook), he lands some well-timed and hurtful counters. Do you not see that?

I don't think Floyd aims to KO you on the inside. He aims to break you down, soften you up for the latter rounds.

Err...well hey, at least you can admit that he surprised you by hurting Oscar.

Yes, but do you remember how he softened Ndou up? Did you forget how Ndou repeatedly backed him into the ropes, relentlessly fired shots, only to have them hit air and gloves? And then get countered again and again? Did you turn away from the TV when all that happened?

    Yes he can.

Well, a lot of relentless fighters have had their asses handed to them by Floyd. Relentlessness was about the only thing they had in common with Duran. And Mex, Ricky Hatton is no Roberto Duran.

    Is that a bet?

Yeah, he can win that way too. But if Hatton fights the way he always fights, they'll be on the inside a lot. And when that happens, Hatton fans will rejoice, just like they did when their hero pounded away at Luis Collazo's ribcage for 12 rounds. And once again, they'll walk away from that fight wondering how, after all that work inside, Hatton was the beaten, battered, fatigued fighter at the end. Except Floyd Mayweather is no Luis Collazo.

I've heard the preparation for these dance routines is fairly grueling. certainly making training for the hatton fight more difficult for him if he makes it toward the end of the reality show. it at least should have some impact considering he's fighting a real opponent.

let's face it, he isn't playing 15 minutes in some shitty minor league basketball game then outpointing some marginal canadian contender.

just curious, had judahs physical abilities eroded between the time he fought tszyu and mayweather? or is it that he had actually beaten a credible champion between the two fights?

:eeeek: Your talking about the Judah coming directly off that humiliating loss to Scrubdomir aren't you Neil?..He also lost to Spinks lest we forget, struggled against Chop, and should've recieved the bad end of the stick against Pineda,.. but hey, "Sweet Pea with a punch, the awesome NY talent on the cusp of p4p greatness"..aint got nuthin' on that. :dunno:

Tszyu's win over Judah was the most impressive, but Judah wasn't much different physically when he fought PBF. Still ridiculously fast with power and skills, only a 10 cent head and poor adjustment abilities.

I do think Judah overlooked Baldomir. Baldomir is a tough guy and decent fighter, but really had little business beating Judah.

Cotto beat a less confident version of Judah than Floyd and Kostya did, IMO. Zab was already flopping around on the canvas in round 1, trying to oversell the low blow. The low blow in round 3 was brutal, but the first one wasn't. Judah was whining to the ref a lot in that fight.

It was sort of like Lewis-Tyson where the Brooklynites showed a lot of heart in terms of taking their beating like men, and hoping to catch their opponent with something big, but they seemed to know that their chances to win were against them.

Castillo didn't say who was stronger, but this is what he said regarding the fight.

Castillo predicted a bad night for Hatton if he were to encounter Mayweather. “Hatton would have no chance of beating him,â€￾ Castillo insisted. “I pushed Mayweather all the way twice, and I should have won the decision (in their first encounter), but he would be too fast for Hatton.â€￾
